I played Broken Tree yesterday from the black tees (I chose black because I only had 2 options, black and blue - I thought blue might be really short). Might have played it once before, years ago - if so I must have consigned it to the *never again* bin and forgotten. This course is INSANE!
It's long, 7300 yards at par 74. But that does not do it justice as there are several short par-4s in there. I drive it 250-275 and was still hitting 3W or hybrid into most holes. Every hole seems to have 25+ bunkers that choke off the fairways, leaving you nowhere to aim off the tee. Greens have obscene, impossible slopes (though to be fair, on Normal pin positions, slopes right around the hole are manageable). The 16th hole is a 700-yard !!! par 5, I felt like a hero hitting the green in reg (Driver, 3W, 3W) but then 3-putted for bogey. They only thing that makes the course playable at all is the recent tweak to fairway bunker penalty and the fact there is not much Lie Penalty around, mostly Flier Chance.
I shot 78 and it was probably one of the best ballstriking rounds I have ever had on the sim. But, never again will I sign up for this kind of punishment.
Of the free courses from Foresight, the one I like by far the most is The Crossing; it's in my top 10 overall FSX courses. I haven't seen much of interest in the 5 new ones that they added recently. Am I missing any that are particularly worthwhile?
