I wanted to ask kindly for some feedback from users who have activated FSX Play on which Nvidia GPU would run flawlessly in a full mode with no stutter. I'm going to upgrade from my GTX 1070Ti PC this year and wondered if an RTX 3060 would be enough to future-proof myself or should I go to the RTX 3090 and just be done with it. Thanks in advance for any advice

I am currently running FSX Play on my GTX 1060 on full performance setting. Several courses are very playable but some aren't. I can play Minot CC, Butterfield with not much issues however LaJolla pines is very slow. I will be updating to RTX 3060 ti in the near future and will be able to report back after that. If you want to see FSX Play in action on GTX 1060 I have posted a couple YouTube videos already.

My RTX 2060 runs great with all the courses, but it takes 85% of the resources of the GPU and when I run Swing Catalyst along side of it, SC stutters but Play still runs smoothly.
the 1070 Ti is a good card. I’d wait and see how much more you need unless you find a great deal and just want it, or unless you plan on running SC or something else at the same time.
pretty sure there is a HUGE difference between a 1060 and a 1070 Ti. Someone posted this resource on another thread: https://www.gpucheck.com/gpu-benchma...mparison-chart

I’m pretty sure it’s 4K at 120hz. That’s a lot of horsepower so yeah that advice probably won’t pan out in helping you at all. It’s takes a lot of GPU to push out 120FPS at 4K. You have a killer setup btw that projector is what sim dreams are made of.Last edited by preludesam; 02-01-2022, 12:13 AM.

What's stopping you from using the projector at 4K?

I have a 2080 set to full graphics and it runs perfectly smooth. However, after reading this thread I played a couple of holes and watched the GPU performance metrics and it stayed at 95%+ the whole time.

Yeah, that was me - there are more than a few benchmarking sites out there. Another good one is here (this is the OP's original comparison which shows the 1070Ti essentially equal in performance to an RTX3060: UserBenchmark: Nvidia GTX 1070-Ti vs RTX 3060. Amazing really when you consider the age difference in the cards.Originally posted by Baller View Postpretty sure there is a HUGE difference between a 1060 and a 1070 Ti. For me with an RTX2080Super, I need to get above an RTX3060Ti (or RTX3070 or higher) to get better results (11%) UserBenchmark: Nvidia RTX 2080S (Super) vs 3060-Ti or really above a 3080Ti to show significant (upgrade worthy) results (70% faster) - essentially same as RTX3090.
Point is, the OP has a great card already - do the research before spending the cash to make sure you actually see an improvement.

Ok, this is great news to see. The age of my PC had me concerned as FSX 2020 runs smoothly but considering FSX Play is more advanced I wanted to inquire. If I do upgrade I would upgrade to a new prebuilt machine as mentioned above DIY market is crazy right now.

I would stay as far away from DIY PC building for another year or so. It’s insane the prices they are charging right now.

I was gonna build my current PC and when I priced everything out, I started shopping to see what I could get. I went Cyberpower PC, picked exactly what I wanted, had them build it, warranty it and support it and I paid LESS than if I'd done it myself. (that was 12/2019)

Edit: correction to what is below... With the latest FSX Play release, it is only Kinsale that runs poorly. I am now able to get 30 FPS+ at the max graphics setting on 9 of 10 free courses with the RTX 3070. Some courses are 80+ FPS. Good job Foresight.
I’m finding that FSX Play is crazy GPU intensive. On medium setting at 1080p, my RTX 3060 could only manage 14 FPS on one course and 20 on another. I built a new computer with a new CPU and switched out to an RTX 3070 that I had. This raised the FPS to a whopping 20. Using that same 3070 in the old computer with a 6-year old CPU resulted in the same 20 FPS. So, if you are looking for a computer to run FSX Play, forget about the CPU and focus solely on GPU. I think a 3080 is the bare minimum to get decent frame rates. Hopefully, Foresight will optimize the program, as no other Unity game runs at such a low frame rate.
BTW, I really like FSX Play. I prefer the physics and graphics to other programs, and I’ve tried them all except Trackman.Last edited by MarkSC; 08-09-2022, 02:33 PM.

MarkSC is on point above.
I upgraded my SIAB HP PC from 1660ti to 3060ti and I can use FSX Play at 1080p low to medium settings with around 50-60fps, which is ok as my projector is 60hz. I still cannot go to full graphics, as FPS drops to the 20 range and it’s unplayable. This was a bit of a surprise to me, but I will also admit I don’t see a huge difference in the graphics settings at 1080p.
I really like Play, but I think the code needs to be tightened up, as many other graphically intensive apps need far less GPU to produce respectable frame rates. I think they are working on this, but it will take time.
If you have a 4K projector, I’d take advantage of the HUGE sales EVGA is running on 3090ti or wait for the 40 series and limp along until then. Anything less than 3080 12gb isn’t going to cut it at high resolutions.

I replied in general, but short answer is skip the 3060.Originally posted by Phish828 View PostI wanted to ask kindly for some feedback from users who have activated FSX Play on which Nvidia GPU would run flawlessly in a full mode with no stutter. If 1080p is all you need you can get away with 3060ti or 3070, but frame rates will still be on low side. I can’t run 1080p full setting on 3060ti.
If you want high FPS at 1080p or going 4K buy the best card you can afford. For this app specifically you’ll need it.

Running a 4070ti desktop at 4k runs all courses at max perfectly. I have frame rate limited to 60fps as that's all the projector will display.

When I ordered my gaming computer to run FSX Play with the 3070ti video card, I thought all of my problems were solved. However, I’m still getting a little shuttering, flicking or whatever it’s called with some of the courses, not all. This is only happening with the courses downloaded or updated since the end of March. I have contacted tech support and they have tried to help me. I’m willing to buy the 4070ti but I want that to be my last videos card. In addition, I want it to run my 4K projector. Will the 4070ti videos card be the last one I have to buy or is this going to be an ever lasting problem?

Siebo, I have not noticed any stuttering on mine, but I have only played maybe 6-7 courses and used the driving range a lot. I was watching the GPU utilization with frames limited to 60FPS and I am never above 80%. Most courses are 60% and that's all. My CPU is running like 8% load and it is using 16gb of the 32gb ram. This is ultra at 4K and running a 1080p TV with a extended display playing pandora, running 10 tabs in a browser, with steam, EA, and discord in the background. I think the only thing that may get us in the future is if the textures used in the game get even more realistic. But also I am hoping the engine gets more efficient as it is chewing up a lot of resources to yield a very good but not truly great picture yet. So my guess is you will be happy with the 4070ti, I cannot guarantee it is the last card you buy.

Almost ready to pull the trigger on the 4070ti video card but have a few more questions. My computer has the Inter Core i7- 11700kf processor with 32gb of memory. Will that handle this video card? Also, is one videos card better than another or are they all the same. Thanks in advance.
