Adjusting offset in FSX Play

Changed values for every drop down LM in room config tool did nothing.

made changes to the ForeSightRoomConfig.json and it made no alteration to the offset when loading Play.

Im almost convinced Play isn’t “pulling” this .json file when loading and just loads a default offset line.

fsx 2020 offset still adjusts when making changes to the config file but play makes none whatsoever. And the room config tool is definitely updating the .json file.

there aren’t multiple instances of the file.

what’s the need for the room offset and the tee offset though when looking at the .json file?

in the room config tool you are only entering screen dimensions and the distance from screen to LM and distance from LM to centerline of screen.

making a change to the LM to centerline of screen changes the value in the room offset line of the .json file when I’d almost expect that to be the value changing in the tee offset line.

Yeah, I'd do the file. If support is telling you do change for all, then they don't understand how their own program works...but they didn't write this one either...

If you change one, it changes them all. If you put those GCQ stats in there, it will not put those same figures for GC2 or GC3...and you can't go in and change them each and save because nothing has changed...it will tell you that. There is nothing to save and you can only enter one set of measurements.

Yes, totally though, use the file. Enter the info you want in the tool, save, exit, open the file and make sure the data is correct and then make a copy. It's funky though...as you can see by my post above. It's in meters (because written by those foreign guys, I assume), so curious if you can write inches in there somehow, but it seems that everything is converted no matter what because that's how it's written.

Yeah I stopped messing with the tool and just started changing the measurements in the file. the offset doesn’t change at all, no matter the numbers I put in the file, it’s like fsx play pays no mind to the file and the numbers at all, the offset does not move even an inch in either direction.

Did you do a search for the actual file like I mentioned I had to? Search the entire c: for ForesightRoomConfig

One popped up for me that was for some reason a web file, said it was the same location, but really wasn't...


I sure don't understand what it was saying, but it only corrected when I changed THAT ONE!

Yeah, I couldn't find any other instances of the file name. I'm pretty certain I was also searching for hidden files but could only pull up the .json file in search results.

Has anyone been able to adjust offset in FSX Pro (not FSX Play) using the room config tool in that program for GCQ? When I run it, the input area for offset under the GCQ is not available. I had a foresight tech guy check it out and he said it’s a bug that needs a fix in the next release. But I haven’t seen anyone post issues on this for FSX Pro so just wondering if anyone else has seen this or has a fix.

Pro has it built in? only ever use the screen slider adjustment inside Pro.

Not had time to test yet but I ha dmore success with the ForesightConfig file.
I think ForesightRoomConfig.json is global for all software, and then it populates the foresightConfig file. It all seemed to stick correctly when I edited that file.

i didn't touch my room config - wheni put the ball down and it read where it was it literally lined up perfectly...is this a new feature? i hav ea gc2

Do you hit center screen or offset?

i'm offset to the right quite a bit - as soon as it registered the ball and turned "green" on the gc2 it was in perfect position - i hit ball - ball flew exactly where it should -- before machine was green the view was in the middle and not offset -- was odd

Where did you find this file? I'm still looking but I don't see this file. I found some config files but none look like that.

I did go into Pro and put in the numbers and save, but they were right already.

Weird that you'd have a file like that and I don't. Did you have FR1 at some point? Maybe it's from something else? I've had everything but FR1.

My brother in law reinstalled Play, ran room config tool, opened Play to driving range and the offset lined up perfectly with a ball on the hitting mat.

He closed down Play, re-opened, and offset is back to middle of screen.

But one thing he noticed, is what Andyman33 is saying, before a ball is placed down on hitting position the offset is in middle of screen but as soon as he set a ball down the offset changed to where it should be.

Thinking back, every time we adjusted using the tool, or hard writing the file, we'd re-open Play and see the offset in the middle and assume the tool wasn't working because we never placed a ball on the hitting mat. Maybe it was working the whole time and we never put a ball down on the mat to "trigger" the offset to change??

Who knows, he seems to think he has it locked in good now.....craziness


Edited to add that we're offset to the right a good bit as well and using GC3.

Yeah, I was hopeful for that at one point but for me, I wasn't so lucky. It stayed in the middle every time. I even started a round a couple times and then after a couple shot said, "wtf, where am I aimed..." and it was because it got reset and I hadn't yet noticed.

BUT, yes, I think regardless, It does start in the middle until you put the ball down.

I have seen it where it shows up in the middle and then jumps to the offset when a ball is put down, but have it where it stayed in the middle. A bit frustrating.

I'm still trying to figure this out...it's very strange. I'm messing with trying to restrict write access to the settings file and if I do, it goes to those annoying incorrect default values but if I change it to allow full access, it goes to back my settings. I wonder if when it goes to the incorrect ones, that it does so because it has a problem accessing the file or something.

Hopefully none of you are having any further Room Config Tool issues after the last update, but if you do have any, lmk. I started an email to support but thought I'd see if it's just me or anyone else.

For me, no matter what I do, if I play something in FSX 2020 and then close out, the settings get erased.

Here's something to check. There is a Room Config Tool in the FSX 2020 folder, and the FSX Play folder, and FSX Pro if you have that. In order for the changes to be reflected in FSX Play, you need to be using the Room Config Tool in the FSX Play Folder, not one of the other ones. I had made a shortcut for the tool on my desktop when I installed FSX 2020, had been using that but nothing was working. Had read somewhere about that and went digging.

Regardless of which one you use, it changes the value in the file here:

C:\ProgramData\Foresight

I tried all that as well.

Do your values stick if you go into 2020 and then back into Play? That is my problem and I've tried everything I can think of. If you make the file read only, it doesn't work at all, which is lame too.

Let me double check on that, the file it writes to is called RoomConfigTool.json or something like that. I'll make a note as to what it is doing and where it is being changed. Will post it later today.

The correct Room Config Tool for FSX Play resides in the C:\Program Files (X86)\Foresight Sports Experience Components. (See RoomConfigTool.exe Location)


It is called the RoomConfigTool.exe The RoomConfigTool Properties.jpg shows the date created, this is a different date than the FSX 2020 tool.


The file it writes too is called the ForesightRoomConfig.json, it reside in the C:\Program Files\Foresight folder (different than the above)


Here's the file contents when I had the offset at 62 inches:


And here it is when I reset the offset to 58 inches:


You can see the "X" offset changed from 1.5747... meters to 1.473... meters.
