  • FSX Play Connection Problems

    Hi All,

I've been messing around with FSX Play this weekend but not having much luck. I first tried it with my GCQuad connected via the supplied USB cord. Yesterday when I did this, Play recognized my device, but I kept getting a "Cannot Connect to this Device" error message. I finally gave up and went back to FSX 2020. Today, I decided to try connecting via an ethernet cable. In my living room, this connected the first time and I was able to hit a few putts and have it register on the driving range practice green. I disconnected and took it out to my garage, reconnected everything back up, and now Play either doesn't recognize that anything is hooked up, or on the 1/100 chance it does recognize the device, gives me the "Cannot Connect..." error again. Brought it back inside, and same thing, no connection. Has anyone else had this problem? Apologies if this is addressed elsewhere. I did a search and nothing came up.

    Thanks,
    David

A couple of folks have had a similar issue but I think most have not. In fact using USB I have had a solid connection each and every time I opened the program where in 2020 I need to “reconnect” the Quad every third or fourth time I start the program so for me it is much better. I am using a USB 3 Bus though I am not certain that should matter.

Normally I would start by swapping a new cable in - so many flaky things happen with cables - but given the problem with both USB and Ethernet I am not sure this would help. Might be worth a shot though.

First off make sure NOTHING else is connected to the Quad (ethernet disconnected, Wifi Disconnected), start up the Quad with USB only connected and THEN open Play.

Sometimes you can start Play first but seems to work best this way and seems to always have connection problems if Ethernet is connected to the Quad.

Thanks Guys. I turned off the Quad, restarted the laptop, turned the Quad back, then opened Play and it finally connected (via USB). Thank you very much for your help.

I am currently having the same issues. My GC3 worked perfectly fine via WiFi with FSX Play. This last week it started having issues disconnecting mid game. Now it will not recognize at all and displays the same "Cannot connect to device" message. Wish there was a more clear way to troubleshoot this...

It seems that USB-C takes a minute to recognize and wireless takes even longer. Eventually I can get both to connect but it's spotty. I basically turned off the "auto-connect" feature so I can manually connect.

            My connection steps:

            1. Open FSX Play
            2. Turn on GC3
            3. Start a course
            4. Manually search for a device to connect to
            5. Click on GC3
            6. See if it is recognized by FSX Play
            7. Disconnect GC3
            8. Refresh connections

Repeat steps 4 thru 8 until FSX Play finally recognizes my GC3.

USB-C has been the go to for both Play and 2020. Connects everytime but there are definitely differences in Amazon quality cables. You get what you pay for
