  • GC2 + HMT obsolete?

Hi All! This is my first posting on this great forum. It is so informative and helpful for a simulator novice like me and I have had some super info just from reading various topics.

I live in the UK and began my sim experience about two years ago by building a set up in my garage at home. I bought a GC2+HMT with FR1 second hand. The software included over 90
courses. Even so I bought and use TGC 2019 for play and just use the FR1 for practice/fitting.
I have a bit of a dilemma at the moment and was hoping someone on here may be able to offer some advice?
Recently I replaced the flash (a spare was included in my purchase) I contacted foresight here in the UK to try and buy another spare flash unit. This is when my worries began!!!!!!

I was told that only a superflash unit could be purchased at a cost of £500 (approx $650) as the standard one was discontinued. I have read all about Andy and his megaflash so I thought I
would PM him to see if he could help me out. However, on thinking about this it has crossed my mind that there may be issues ahead in the near future.

I got the impression from the foresight guy he had little interest in my set-up! He was keen to tell me all about GCQuad GC3 Fsx2020 and FsxPlay (even though GC3 is not yet available here)
When I looked at the Foresight Europe website I was shocked to see that many of the GC2 accessories were no longer available. PANIC BUTTON HIT!!!!!

I bought my GC2/HMT Fr1 setup second hand for £8000 in 2020 which at the time seemed a reasonable price. I simply do not have the resources for a Quad.

My dilemma is now this: Is the GC2 going to be phased out so that there will be no further Foresight support? Should i just try and sell my set-up and get a GC3? (Quad out of the question sadly)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks for reading and apologies if a bit long winded!

I also have the GC2/HMT combo. I would not consider getting rid of it for a GC3, only a GCQuad. That being said I don't plan to do that anytime soon. I've not contacted Foresight about potential future support. However, the last time I talked with Foresight I had the exact opposite response that you did with my contact there indicating he would keep the GC2 unless I was wanting to jump to a Quad. For my use he said he didn't see much point in jumping to the Quad.

Thanks for fast response-reassuring if people are happy to stay with the GC2! There must be a lot out there I guess

I'd say GC3 is only worth it over GC2 if you know you definitely don't need the extra data parameters from four stickers versus one, since that's all GC3 is capable of. I wouldn't ditch one for the other.

As far as I'm aware - feel free to correct me - Quad has some tighter tolerances for the data points but it's a pretty minor improvement over its predecessor. The main advantages are the integrated LED flash, smaller form factor and better screen/portability.

Love my GC2/HMT. Why would I down grade to one dot data? Personally I wouldn't.

Looks like the Foresight rep is just trying some salemanship douchbaggery. I bought my GC2/HMT second hand in October of 2019 and still haven't paid the Foresight $500 registration fee. I would think even if FS stopped selling GC2s it will still function just fine. I have used Andy for spare flashes, shank tank, and suggestions on minor repairs.

Same as the user above, I have no interest in downgrading to a GC3/BLP. If I ever need to upgrade it will be between a Quad or an EyeXO.

Thanks again for your input-I suppose my main worry is ending up with a non-functioning Gc2 and was considering the downgrade just to keep going!
Your comments give me some hope for optimism and maybe the foresight guy was putting the feelers out for a sale.

You have accuracy and functionality. The difference is either isn't earth shattering. Gc2 is deadly accurate and other than having to bolt on the HMT, it's pretty functional. No need to change unless money is burning a hole in your pocket.

Hello, i have a Gc2 with TGC 2019 working fine and just purchased HMT second hand to try to get club data information.
Do I need to purchase a FSx soft to make the Hmt working or can I get club data information with TGC 2019 or FR1 ?
Does some unofficial interface exist that help having club data ?

                Many thanks
