  • Gc3 / launch pro missing too many shots

Is anyone else having trouble with GC3/LP missing shots? After 2 weeks now I’m very disappointed in how many shots it's missing and it’s happening throughout the bag. Foresight indicates that my unit already has the update that they designed to fix the previously detected problem which is described as a bug imbedded in the firmware on their site. So, they want me to log the missed shots and send the info together with pics of my sim setup and clubs. I've had a Sky Trak for 4 years now and I’m very familiar with missed shots when chipping, putting and hitting high wedge shots. It's why I went to the GC 3. After using Sky Trak for so long I understand the need to get the unit setup right (done). I’ve also been through all the voodoo about the reflector material on my shoes and the color of my club head or tee. Is there any better information on what’s going on here? Should I return this thing?

I have a GC3 and when the firmware updated mine would randomly not find the ball. Foresight had me roll back the firmware and all is good. I have had no issues with missed shots. Maybe ask for an exchange if they can't figure it out.

Foresight says my unit already has the rollback. Glad to hear that you're problem free. There is hope.

Search for "GC Quad missing shots". From memory a couple of things you can try.
    1. Direct sunlight into the cameras tends to make shots miss.
    2. Many have also had issues with white shoes (though I use white shoes without an issue).
    3. Make sure you are in the hitting zone (whatever that is for the GC3). I put the quad in a place that all my shots are pretty much center of the viewing area.
    4. Some had issues with firmware but again, not sure if that is a thing with the GC3
    There may be others.

None of these are variables for me, so I figure it's got to be internal.
      Thanks for the reply!

To clarify, the unit sees and locks on to the ball with a solid green light but when the ball is hit the unit suddenly changes to "looking for a ball" and gives no return on the shot.

Any chance the ball is moving slightly when you take the club away? Maybe you are brushing the turf on the way back? Do you get the no reads when hitting from a tee or outdoors?

I've got a thick turf mat and don't think it's possible for the ball to move from my swing. Have a SkyTrak for years now and I'm vey aware of the ball placement and unit setup. It's still been a little cold here to hit outside. I've unplugged the GC-3 and gone back to SkyTrak until they test the unit. SkyTrak never missed this many shots. Very disappointing for the cost.

You can also try applying a club dot marker on your putter. Not that you will get the data but it may help tracking the putter depending on your lighting conditions. This substantially reduced my miss reads before I realized my culprit was the amount of daylight the cameras were seeing. With blinds on the windows now I rarely have a miss reads, regardless of dots.

Last suggestion, is to move the ball to the front of the detection zone and see if that makes a difference.

I know this has been said before, but if the hitting mat moves (slides and not secured down), people have reported just what you are reporting. Take it to a range and see if it's reliable hitting off the grass. If so, it may be that your hitting mat needs to be secure. I use non-skid padding underneath mine.

This spring my situation was left that they were updating the Firmware to fix the problem. If it didn't fix it they would take it back. After following up with them in Aug. I was told the fix was in the latest Firmware version. I downloaded version 1.6.0.72 a few weeks ago. Tried it out for maybe 20 shots and it missed some. Looking for the time to do more test shots and if it continues I'm done with it....... spent way too much time on this issue for it to be fun or useful to my game. Will advise.

I had a similar problem, but recently found a solution. My GC3 generally worked fine during daylight hours without a problem, but would frequently miss shots at night - especially the higher speed shots, but sometimes short irons and putts too. I assume there is something about my lighting setup that it doesn’t like. I use an overhead spot to light the hitting zone. Tried all sorts of different lighting arrangements to no avail. I noticed that the night lighting was creating a glare off of the ball that was not present outdoors or indoors during the day. Last week I bought a box of Titleist Velocity balls that come in green with a matte finish. Problem solved! No glare and it has not missed a single shot with those balls. I am assuming it is the matte finish that solved the problem, not the color. Titleist makes them in other colors too, but haven’t found any in white - not that it matters - I don’t care what color the ball is as long as it works.

Interesting... I have a BLP in my garage and with low lights I really don't have any issues like at all. What color are your shoes? and is there anything white in the background? I have heard of issues with white shoes and white background/walls.

All I use on my sim are standard ProV1 and ProV1x's.

Shoes are dark. I think lighting is likely the issue. Hitting area is well lit with a spotlight - maybe too well lit? Too much glare coming off ball? But tried other lighting setups also. Nothing worked until I tried the matte finish balls.

I’m dealing with the same thing right now. My Launch Pro misses more driver and 3 wood shots than it registers. Rarely misses an iron shot though. I’ve tried everything I can think of: black tees, black shoes, logo facing LM, different lighting setups, etc. It’s driving me nuts.

I had the same issue at first, several versions ago (6 weeks). The problem was that the mat was moving ever so slightly. An easy test - does it get every PW but has trouble with DR? If you swing driver slowly, does it pick it up? Any time I got a missing shot, I used the same club and hit it 80%, and every time, it picked up the ball. Used carpet tape to lock down my mat and now it NEVER misses a shot. I'm on latest version of firmware and really have had no trouble since I fixed the mat.

I think it’s definitely related to movement of the mat and therefore the ball before contact. I was having big problems with missed shots on the GC3, especially with driver. I’ve now changed my mat and it sits in a heavy rubber tray to eliminate movement. No missed shots since I made the change. Happy dayz
