    Troubleshooting GC2 Potential battery/charger issue

Hi, all, I recently bought a used GC2, has been working great and going through the monthly discharge/charge cycle. The other night it died on me but I've been unable to get the battery to recharge. I thought that it might be too low to charge as a safety feature, but after removing the battery and plugging it back in, the unit does not power on at all. I've tried a second 15V 3A charger and it does the same thing: when first plugged into an outlet, the chargers light turns on to indicate power, but as soon as I plug it into the GC2, the light goes off. I used a multimeter to check both chargers and they were giving off 15V. Before dying, the battery was holding a really decent charge, approx 4 hours of play each charge.

Has anyone else had this issue, where plugging the charger into the unit seems to block the charger from working, even with the battery removed? Could I have a potential Power Port or CPU Board issue?

I'm trying to narrow the problem down before paying the hefty registration fee with Foresight to have it diagnosed.

Thanks to anyone in advance who has been through this or has any info!

Most likely you have a short on the power inside the GC2. If you take your multimeter and measure resistance between the center pin and the outer contact on the power plug, I bet it will measure close to zero ohms. The hard part is figuring out where the short is happening. From what I’ve seen in the past, the most likely thing is that one of the capacitors has shorted out. You have to remove them one at a time until the short is fixed, then replace the one that is bad. Feel free to PM me if you would like for me to take a look at it.

Send it to andygg1986 he does great work and fixes it very quickly. He recently fixed a power port issue on my GC2 as well as a screen replacement due to the backlight not working on it. You'll save a lot of money this way.
