  • Help understanding this ball flight

    What metrics am I not taking into account on this ball flight. As a RH player, closed club face and in to out swing, why is the ball going right? Thanks!

    Someone else will probably have a more elaborate (and correct) explanation but...

    toe down and path right = ball starts right closed face to target = draws left

    Looks about right to me.

      The toe down impact (high handle) will push the ballflight to the right. The ball has a fair amount of "sidespin" in part due to the upright club.
      Though with that face to target number it seems excessively right to me. Looks like alot of heel strikes. If you are getting close to shanking it the start line can get pushed way off to the right.

        What is the Face to Path? If your Club Path is +2.3, and your Face to Path is neutral, the ball is going to go to the right. And, as Dubville says, if it's near the hosel that will put additional forces in play, especially when combined with a pretty severe toe down lie angle. Shaft stiffness and "kickpoints" have something to do with lie angle, but it's more likely hand position at impact that is producing that shot. Try a few swings keeping your hand path closer to your body, (think sweeping them past your body just a couple of inches away from your right thigh(for a righty)), that might help with the toe angle and the heel impacts. It should allow the head of the club to be more level and pull the club towards the body a bit.

          Face to Path is the key metric for curve. You're currently displaying Face to Target.

          If you swing 30 degrees left of target, and your face is 35 degrees left of target, you will produce a pull hook because your face is 5 degrees closed to your path

          If you swing 30 degrees left of target, and your face is 25 degrees left of target, you will produce a pull slice because your face is 5 degrees open to your path

          If you swing 30 degrees right of target, and your face is 35 degrees right of target, you will produce a push slice because your face is 5 degrees open to your path

          If you swing 30 degrees right of target, and your face is 25 degrees right of target, you will produce a push draw because your face is 5 degrees closed to your path

          The toe down can be for many reasons, but is a bit excessive. My complete guess would be that either you're tall and playing clubs that were not properly fitted (say stock Mizuno or Miura at an inch over) or as it more often the case, that it's due to being steep causing you to extend early.

            Also never rule out misreads. . According to my GCQ, I swung it at 800 MPH yesterday, and regularly produce shots with zero spin. Yesterday was the first time I've ever hit a 240 yard PW flush. :/

          Your club face is a bit closed to target
          however , it isn't closed to path. (you can change that in the setting for better understanding).

          Your path is in to out and club face "likely open to path" Which means you hit to ball to the right with open club face

          toe down also will cause more fade biase fyi

            What are you all talking about? His Face to Target is 0.9 degrees closed and his path is 2.3 to the right. Therefore his Face to Path is 3.2 degrees CLOSED. Three people so far have implied that it is open. It is not.

              Correct. The face to path is CLOSED. It is 3.2* closed to path.

                You have to choose what to believe here. You can believe he's getting 760 RPM cut spin from a 3.2 degree closed face to path, or you can believe there's a misread elsewhere.

                At the end of the day, GC Quad numbers are not 5 Nines reliability ime.

                  I have hundreds of examples of my GCQ data that has ball flight data that doesn’t match the club heat data. Ie cut ball flight when I had a closed face to path an an inside out swing. I asked foresight about this as I was concerned about a malfunctioning unit. They just said the unit was fine and ignored my data that I gave them. I still have concerns that something isn’t working right but I got no where with foresight. Check out my prior posts to see as I even put the data up for people to look at. The unit measures ball flight and club data independently. I believe the ball data over the club data.

                    Its quite amazing how quickly people can jump to "misread" because they don't understand the data. Could this particular shot be a misread? Of course it could. But people implying that you simply CANT have cut spin with a face that is closed to the path are displaying a stunning amount of ignorance.



                    Anything off the heel, depending of the CG of the particular club, can have cut spin overriding face to path. It is most exaggerated with the longer clubs due to roll and bulge, but it is a factor on irons as well.

                      So you've never had a misread, you cite a trackman example where face to path is 0.8 when the shot in question is 3.2 face to path, and everyone except you is stunningly ignorant?

                      You seem like someone I'm really happy not to know.

                      That said, since you're so pleasant and full of knowledge - do you happen to know where I can find the ignore button on this site?
