FSX 2020 crashes with Chamelon3 USB3 Camera - anyone got this working?

Hi guys,

I tried to plug my swing cameras in for the first time today having jumped from SkyTrak / Swing Catalyst to my new GC3.

Once a camera is plugged in, FSX 2020 won't event load past the splash screen, it just closes again. If I load FSX 2020 and then plug the camera in, in crashes and closes within about 10 seconds.

Has anyone got the Chameleon3 cam working with FSX 2020 - any tips or ideas about where to check compatibility?

Cams worked fine with Swing Catalyst before, so must be an FSX compatibility issue, or else a clash with the camera and GC3's USB connection running concurrently?

Ideally I want to run foresight range and either have camera replay within FSX, or else run Swing Catalyst on a separate screen.

Yeah, pretty sure it's not the camera itself, but rather the setting are asking too much of FSX and it overloads it. A couple things to try:

1) You should be able to load with the cam unplugged, but confirm
2) you can erase the cam settings for that cam in the FSXSETTINGS FILE
3) I believe you MUST change the stored parameters in the cam to some that don't overload FSX on startup.

Thanks, I’ll check out that file. Do you know what settings would work with FSX and how I change them? Is that in the file too? Previously the cameras worked fine with Swing Catalyst and the settings auto adjusted to the available light.

Yeah, well there are big differences in how the two programs operate, not to mention that Swing Cat is MADE to work with cams and FSX just tolerates working with cams.

Every camera is different and how much load they put on the system is different so you have to play around with it.

The first things I would try is to reduce the resolution/size of the image and reduce the fps to what you need (somewhere around 120-150fps if more than enough for most things.

Hi guys, I’m still struggling with this. I couldn’t find any camera related settings in the FSX settings file. I tried reducing the resolution and frame rate in the software that comes with the cameras, but FSX still won’t load with a camera plugged in. These Flir Chameleon cameras are recommended by Swing Catalyst, so there’s got to be someone out there who’s managed to get them to work alongside FSX?

You could try loading FSX and THEN plugging the camera in, but as long as those settings that make it crash are there, then it will likely crash as soon as you select the camera. You've got to get FSX to use more reasonable settings, or improve whatever is bogging down your system or it will keep crashing. You could try have all other programs closed and see if that helps.
