  • Irons Always Toe Up - Do I suck at stickers?

    Hey Folks,

I'm getting almost exclusively toe up readings on my Quad, and can't quite figure out why. Some facts:

I'm 6'3 with relatively long arms / legs
I'm using a Fiberbuilt mat (which certainly allows for fat strikes when compared to a standard range mat)
I've tested across many sets ranging from 1.5 degrees up from Titleist spec to old school Mizuno OEM spec (so perhaps across a 4 - 5 degree range)
I've tested across multiple shafts and stiffnesses (Modus, Super Peening, Project X, MMT 125TX, S200, Tour AD-DI)

Now it's certainly possible that I'm the problem as I'm constantly tinkering with my swing and tend to be a bit dumped under. Still, it's really strange that even the old school Mizzys register toe up, so I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced something like this before, and what they found.

    Thank you!

Not sure why that would be strange and I would not get obsessed with it.

If you hit the ball how you want to, then ignore it. If you hook the ball too often, then maybe you should try flattening the lie on a set of clubs and see what happens.

It's more about what the ball does than the data you see. Use the data to help you, not to make yourself crazy.

I appreciate the response, but getting really into the weeds with things like this is the reason I bought the quad. . I'm like - 95% digging into numbers and working on swing mechanics - and 5% into sim golf.

I posted this primarily because seeing toe up so frequently is the opposite of what I expect to see - which then makes me question whether it's some aspect of set up / process / etc.

I'm relatively confident that I do not swing my super flat vintage Mizunos toe up on course - yet they read as toe up on the quad. I may very well have an "inside, practice swing" and an "outside, pressure swing" - but I'd very much like hear from other folks who may have seen similar things in the past.

Go to the range, draw lines on the balls with a sharpie and line them vertically then hit balls. Look the club and you’ll know instantly if your club is toe up. Given the readings on the quad I’d say they likely are.

          Yup, that really does work.

What happens when other people hit balls on your quad? Everyone that comes into your studio upright also?

Thanks. I did this prior to posting and the lines are almost always straight up (regardless of lie). Really strange.

That said, I was able to get a couple of tow down measurements by standing really close to the ball with a wedge.

I guess perhaps I should check with Foresight as to how they actually measure dynamic lie. Which dots they use to measure would be helpful.

Nobody else uses my Quad. I have pretty limited space (can't swing more than a ~7i without a pretty flat finish due to low ceiling). Seriously considering moving primarily for this reason - but not dying to sell my current place or be a landlord - so I work with what I got and will get around to patching the drywall someday...

If it's only up with the quad and not outside, then it's either something you are doing inside, your mat, or your sticker placement.

I think you answered your own question really. If you are intentionally trying to have a flat finish I can almost guarantee you are flat at contact which would produce a toe up condition. Given you do not see this outside I think this is all indoor swing syndrome. Not sure it is any more complicated than that!

Ha! I somehow missed that part. Totally agree on that!

I thought about this and tend to agree - BUT - note that it's anything more than a 7i. I'm seeing this with the clubs I CAN swing normally.
