  • Software subscription service with the Bushnell Launch Pro is complete garbage.

I hate to be so negative for a first post, but it is worthwhile.

I have owned four different launch monitors over the years. The original Accusport, the Accusport Vector Pro, a Flightscope, a GC2, and now a CG3 under the Bushnell brand. I am also a programmer/computer analyst with 25+ years of hardware/software experience.

The Bushnell Launch Pro works very well - IF IT WORKS!

This idea of slicing up the software features into a subscription model is great on paper and in board meetings, but if you can't code the verification/subscription process correctly, then DON'T ROLL IT OUT.

3 times a week, I head out to practice, and I have been able to use the device 3 times in 3 weeks. Each time I sat down and ensured that it was connected and ready, only succeeding intermittently. If it works, I leave the power on and head out. I have done everything to get this thing to work, and apparently, there is a token given for 45 days, and then you have to connect again.

This market is getting very competitive, and right out of the gate, Bushnell has fallen on their face. It would be best if they sold what they have that works flawlessly and nothing more. The frustrating part is knowing that all the features are in my (bought) product and that some incompetent people are keeping me from it.

Hopefully, when I call tomorrow, the "unlocked" version will be a single key that cuts the need for a connection to this company. If not, I will be asking for a refund.

I am not a programmer, but I have had this device since launch, and after reading this 3 times, I respectfully do not know what the “connection” problem is.

The device doesn't need to connect to anything to generate club and ball data, and therefore work.

Are you getting data on the built in display but not able to see that on your phone or iPad?

Correct. This makes it only useful if it is overcast and I can't see the ball one can at least determine if it was a bad shot. I could have bought a Mevo + if that is all I needed.

The product is the whole of it. A launch monitor that is portable with connectivity to an Ipad for outdoors as well as in a simulator set up with a computer running the software.

I paid for a Silver subscription and included in that is the FSX pro software on an Ipad. It simply does not work. It does communicate with the servers. It is just broken.

At this point for all the trouble, I would not have bought it.

In my garage I hardwire it, as I will admit the wifi chip is flaky at best. Works great.

On the range... the app needs an internet connection as the unit is activated like you said for 45days and doesn't need to phone home. For this to work (when I do use the app at the range... typically I just use the display), I use the hotspot on my phone and connect both my iPad and BLP to that. Works great. Also have you adjusted the contrast on the unit's display? I hit on a sunny range with polarized sunglasses on and can still read it.

I don't know that upgrading to the unlocked version will change much for you... I believe when I looked at the licensing code it still needs to phone home (at least on the desktop app) to verify your unlocked subscription... I can confirm later when I'm at home.
