Bushnell launch pro spin too high

    Hello,

for some background, I am a + handicap who plays on a quad weekly out of season. I recently brought a bushnell launch pro and have noticed significantly high spin rates. For example with a 3 hybrid the spin is 6000-6500, approx 5000 with a 3 wood and 4 iron. I have also noticed the spin numbers are a bit high with wedges too, approximately 12000 with 60* which is also a bit high for me. Launch and ball speed are reasonable.

i have also noticed the spin numbers often end as round numbers such as 2500 or 5000 instead of 2454 or 4982 for example. I wasn’t sure if this speaks to some kind of estimation or rounding the device is doing as I have not noticed similar on quad.

Any thoughts ? Firmware is up to date. Have tried different balls with same results.

    Thanks !

Funny you say this because my spin numbers have been really low on my gc3!

    - what were the light conditions?
    - have you calibrated it?
    - what balls were you using? Colour?

Light conditions seem ok, a few overhead lights in basement. There is a slight shadow on the hitting area so I wonder if that could contribute ? I read some other posts where other posters were saying they didn’t think lighting conditions would contribute to any issues but would def be opening to getting another light to get rid of the shadow and see if that helps.

I have not calibrated it, frankly I didn’t know that was a thing so I will look up that process haha!

tried z star XV, TPX and prov1x balls, all in white. No abnormal colors or markings.

Could be the mat you’re using? Tee it up and see if you get the same high readings so you can at least rule that variable out. Also take it with you next time you’re on the quad and compare

          Look here https://mygolfspy.com/foresight-gc3-...ll-launch-pro/.

Notice the basic model doesn't report anything but total spin. The Quad and GC3 report backspin and side spin or total spin and spin axis. They actually measure back and side spin and compute the spin axis.

Total spin is the vector sum of back and side spin and can be expressed by Total spin = square root of (back spin squared + side spin squared) Only the most costly of the Bushnell packages does exactly what the Quad or GS3 does wrt to spin.

            Mine has the gold package.

the spin axis is often 1 or 2* on shots with really high spins so for all practical purposes the total spin is basically the back spin. Meaning it is being measured incorrectly. If I was hitting a 100 yard slice with a super tilted axis it would be different. I understand what you’re saying I just don’t think it really applies to my situation.

Tried on two different mat surfaces in my hitting area and still got wonky readings. I plan to take it to the location where the quad is and use then simultaneously. Hopefully it’s just something weird with my set up.

has anyone else had issues with various lighting arrangements? I also tried in basically the dark and the problem continued.

edit: sorry this second component was supposed to be in response to the above comment asking me about the mats. I quoted the wrong comment. Thanks.

That article is old. All plans include club and all spin data now.

Is your BLP level with your hitting surface?

You had better inform Bushnell because this https://www.bushnellgolf.com/launch-...tware-packages is direct from their website today

Inform them of what? All of the plans list including club data on their site. The only way you don’t get it is if you don’t purchase a plan.

Which is the point. If you don't purchase a plan or you don't renew your plan there is no spin data. The original post had nothing to do with club data it was about ball spin differences.

You said: “Only the most costly of the Bushnell packages does exactly what the Quad or GS3 does wrt to spin.” and that is what the article says… only gold contains back spin and side spin.

Which is incorrect and outdated. How hard is that to admit?

It’s literally on the page you linked to on Bushnell’s site. Now any purchased package including their cheapest includes spin+club. Literally the reason I bought one over summer.

Which part of "If you don't purchase a plan or you don't renew your plan there is no spin data" don't you understand.

I suppose the part where you never said that in the post I initially responded to.

Back to the issue at hand... OP insure your unit is level with the hitting area and not lower. If lower the camera sometimes will not fully capture the ball and provide incorrect measurements.
