  • Can someone explain the difference between FSX 2020, FSX Play, and FSX Pro?

FSX 2020 owner/user here. I think I've used FSX Pro on my tablet with my GC2/HMT a few times. It seems that was more for mobile fitting/range sessions?
But now there's FSX Play. So can someone simplify/summarize what the main differences are and what each one is geared towards specifically?
Recently purchased a Quad which will be taken to the range and maybe the course on occasion.
So will I be using FSX Play or Pro when mobile (without a computer/laptop)?

    Thanks for the input.

FSX Play is essentially a graphics upgrade to FSX 2020. And the graphics are significantly better. However some of the other features and functionalities are a step back from FSX 2020, as several threads around here will make clear.

If you're not playing sim golf you don't need Play.

If you are going mobile, without a PC/Laptop you could use an iPad reading the GCQ wifi signal.

Or, just read the data from the GCQ screen, you wouldn't really need any electronics unless you are wanting to save the shot data.

delaloi is correct, FSX Play is an uprgraded FSX 2020, both have the ability to be used the same way as FSX Pro, as a fitting/data reporting tool, but they also can be used to play simulator golf on real courses. FSX Play is FSX 2020 built on a different graphics program, looks incredibly better than 2020, but has some bugs & playability issues that some people find incredibly irritating. (I'm one of those).

Thanks for the info. I found some info on youtube and the forums but none went into detail on who each program was catering to. And it looks like us FSX 2020 users are being charged $500 to "upgrade" to FSX Play. Sounds like it's still evolving. Maybe a consideration down the road.

The other question. I thought there was a way that all data collected by your Foresight launch monitor on the range or course could/would be saved to the cloud to review after your round/session?
Is that only when used in conjunction FSX Pro or can it pull directly from your device?
I heard or read that they had this capability but wasn't sure how this was done.
Seems useful if you just want to take your unit to the range or course, plop it down, and review the data later.

I will continue to research and likely call Foresight but any additional info/experience would be very helpful.

        Thanks all.

To save stuff to the cloud you just sign up for FSX Live, which doesn't cost anything extra. When you are in FSX Play it automatically sends everything there and you can analyse it later.

In brief: fsx2020 is suitable for ordinary simulator players for entertainment training, can provide swing action replay, and targeted training analysis, relatively speaking, belongs to a variety of functions have the software; fsxpro is aimed at teaching, golf shot data analysis, targeted data consulting, mainly for coaches, club fitting and other user groups; fsxplay is a software designed to satisfy users' virtual next 18 holes, high-quality images and more realistic virtual experience. It is completely designed to satisfy users' virtual entertainment

the only thing I would add to this description which I agree with is: FSX2020 software works the best with the least bugs/issues. Both FSX Pro and FSX Play have several software bugs within them. Sadly FSX 2020 is supposed to be replaced with FSX Pro and FSX Play....now if they could only get the software working....

Long time GC2/HMT/FSX user. While FSX had it's issues in general, it connected and worked. Since upgrading to Quad, trying to use FSX Pro with IPAD has been hit and miss at best.
The main reason I bought the Quad is for the portability but I just can't seem to get it to connect and stay connected using FSX Pro with IPAD.
And using it with a phone is not an option. The screen is just too small and the icons you would be clicking on, unless you have VERY tiny fingers, are almost completely unusable.
Using with my ipad, it seems that when I launch FSX Pro it wants to see a connection to FSX Live, so WIFI on ipad has to be connected to log in to FSX Live.
But after I log in (assuming it doesn't just hang which has happened more times than not), if it DOES connect, I then have to disconnect ipad from wifi and connect to Quad wifi to get the Quad to connect with FSX Pro.
Also, I like to see several data tiles up at once but the way the FSX Pro screen is set up, the tiles partially block the ball tracer screen so ball flight tracer screen seems a bit flat not representing actual trajectory.
I understand the app was designed for instruction and fitting and normally you're only looking at a few key parameters but after using FSX and FSX 2020 exclusively indoors I got used to seeing all the data on one screen at once. Ball flight tracer in the center and all the data tiles on the right. Then switching over to the club data screen we all know and love.
I just want to be able to plop my Quad down in front of my net return, connect ipad to FSX Pro and Quad and have a session.
It just hasn't been THAT yet but I'll keep trying and reading.
Definitely need to get used to how the data is displayed on the Quad screen and all the pages and layers of FSX Pro for mobile use.

New FSX user here. Just got the gaming PC, downloaded FSX Play... Do I even need to download 2020? Am I missing anything with just sticking to Play?

Not really... I have both Play and 2020, and I cant even remember the last time I started up 2020. As others have said, Play is a bit more buggy, but when it is working it is head and shoulders better than 2020 in my eyes.. especially the courses they have spent more time on (which surprise surprise are the more expensive ones like Pebble etc)

If you have Play and it works ok for you, the only reason to also get 2020 is there are some courses that Foresight has not been allowed to port over from 2020 to Play. If you have some of those, as I do, you can only play them on 2020.

Cool so from a range/practice/data/skills prospective, play has everything 2020 has?
            Working...
