  • GC2 Incorrect distance 20% short

Hi to everyone at Golf Simulator Forum,

This is my first post and my first new topic, I think I should probably start by explaining the situation hopefully I'm not too long-winded.

I'm originally from Canada but now living in Phuket Thailand for the past 20 years. I'm a long-time golfer currently a 4 handicap but have been as low as scratch. I have being dreaming of having my own golf simulator in my house mostly for game improvement reasons. After a lot of research online I decided to go with the GC 2 for its accuracy and portability. After a lot of research I found some good deals with 2nd swing on eBay and made the purchase.
I was traveling in America and picked up the unit took it back to Thailand with me and set everything up in my room. Obviously very easy to set up this machine but was immediately disappointed as all of my distance was seen to be 20% shorter than they were normally. As a long time golfer I know my distances very well and uncannily they were nearly exactly 20% short every time. This was the same with every type of golf ball and two other golfers that I tested.
I am getting great service from 2nd swing and they are perplexed at the situation I'm not sure of their knowledge though. But they are trying to help in fact they sent me a new flash bulb for the machine just tried it today and disappointingly I am getting the same results.

I'm a bit at a loss to figure out what's going on, my understanding is there is no calibration on this system also I am aware that I've purchased the system on the other side of the planet 2nd hand I'm not sure if that makes any difference.
I am using the system right now at sea level and very high humidity on this island.
The system was purchased from Minnesota I'm assuming it was tested there as well before it was sold second hand.

I've been reading through these forums, as I don't want to ask questions that have already been answered. There is a ton of extremely knowledgeable people here and I'm so grateful to find this information source. It's very difficult for me to send the unit back for repairs or get replacement units sent to me from the place I bought it as I'll have to deal with a very difficult customs and duty system here in Thailand if you know what I mean. I'm trying to avoid that and solve it on my own hopefully someone here in these forms can give me a heads up on a simple solution or at least something that I can apply a patch to.

Thanks for any help hopefully I'll be able to contribute and help others in this forum in the future. Thank you

    Just some more basic info

    Boot Version1.6
    Firmware 3.7

It's either you or the GC2. The mat and balls is you.

May be a dumb point but when I got mine I went to range and it was 20% short. I didn't have the front support down. Duh. Also test it outside. I also swing 20% less inside until I got used to it. Also again, the mat. Test it with a tee. If all of this and what other posted fails, call Foresight. I've only heard of one instance where it was the unit. I was literally days from calling Foresight. For me it was me. .

Oh ya. Skip FSX and pick up TGC. You'll be glad.

The possible problem is not whether the software explicitly asks for a serial number but whether it interrogates the unit for the serial number when running the program.

This is a relatively common practice when running calibration routines on hardware if for no other reason then to ensure the correct calibration is being done in case a part was changed during the production run. I was kind of suspicious since Foresight did not list this calibration routine on their website downloads the last time I looked a few months ago.

Blaiz, I was consistently 2 club lengths short when I first got my GC2. Long story short, I discovered I just swung much faster outside than when indoors. I had to practice swinging faster inside. Take the GC2 to the range outside, and see if it works more in line with your expected distances.

Go to a range with track man or flights cope and compare your bs,spin and launch nos. Could be mat issues (real feel?) or just lack of adrenalin that would get on course.
