  • GC Hawk accuracy? And P770 iron feedback

Planning on getting fit for new irons, currently been playing mp63’s with x100 shafts for about 12 years. Typical carry distance with my 7 iron is 167-168 yards. I fluctuate between a 2 and a 5, but ball striking is easily the weakest point of my game, so I am considering shifting to something with a little more forgiveness like a combo p770 and p790 set.

Long story short, at the PGA store they have GC Hawks setup. With the both the p770 and p790 I was hitting pronounced draws to borderline hooks, which I never do with an iron on the course, and saw average carry distances of 184 and 189 respectively. Dispersion was tight, but I was wondering if anyone has seen dramatic distance exaggerations or draw bias with a GC Hawk? Just curious before I pay $100 to get formally fitted at that location.

I triple checked elevation was set to 0 and wind was turned off.

As a Foresight user, I believe the hawk is accurate. The only thing is carry can be exaggerate a bit depending on launch/spin but that usually sticks out on the drivers.

My thought is your loft and lies on the TM gear as they are stronger lefts compared to the Mizuno as to why you are hitting these longer. The other thing I would bet the shaft is longer too on the TM. As for left, it could simply be the lie angle of the iron you are swinging. Did you hit your Mizuno first to see if you numbers were truly what you see on the course? If not, I would go back and do that.

I agree w Scottygolf. Gotta hit your Mizuno's first to get a baseline. If your shot shape is roughly the same on the Mizuno's on the Hawk as it is in real life, and then the P's are drawing hard, it's not the Hawk. In addition, new heads & shafts, you'll need to spend some time figuring out how to hit them as you want, takes awhile to get used to new equipment.
