  • GC2 Help. Bluetooth needs service. Yardages low.

I am new to creating a golf simulator. I bought a used mat, a used screen enclosure, and just purchased a used GC2 from Ebay. I would like to make a GSPro setup at home in my garage.

The GC2 says that the bluetooth needs service. I also took it to a simulator bay locally and I was reading approximately 10% low on all my yardages with the GC2 compared to their GC3s.

Two main questions I would really appreciate help with.
    1. Can I use GSPro without the bluetooth connection?
    2. Could there be a reason why the GC2 was reading so low for my carry distance. For example 260 carry for my driver on my GC2, but 295 carry on their GC3. Both used at same location.

I would ideally like to hook the GC2 up to my gaming computer and run GSPro through that to a projector I have yet to purchase.

Thank you for any help that can be given.

I have checked this forum multiple times a day for a week now.

Does anybody have any advice as to a better place to post this question on this forum? Maybe a different forum that has more visits?

Kind of stuck here, whether the unit is defective and needs to be returned.. If I need to send it to foresight sports.. Or is this a normal set of issues that others have faced?

I would appreciate any direction that anybody could give me. Feeling like trying to build a sim might be a bit over my head right now.

Wish I had some help but sadly, I do not.

It's IRL golf season now so it gets a little slow in here. I have a question up with only my own responses so I feel your pain. (I did get some help in a PM and I really do appreciate it!)

First, what you should look for when comparing is the ball speed of the shot. That would be where you could confirm the 10% lower carry as it would be due to a lower ball speed reading on the GC2. I think (but not 100% sure) that you can set elevation in the other units and that would make a difference in the carry numbers but would not change ball speed. GC2 is read at sea level only and it would be the software that adjusts the carry after that.
I have seen 2 GC2's read about 1 to 2 mph difference on the same shot so that would be about the max difference you should see.

As for the need to use BT to run software, it does work easier but you can for some software (GSPro included) use the USB cable and run it that way. Also you can possibly get the BT in the GC2 fixed, Andy is his first name. Might have to search to find him.

Thank you StanMI and SFR for the responses. Greatly appreciated! Was feeling a bit all alone on this project.

I did move forward with ordering a mini-split for the garage, while in this hangup. So the sim build is moving forward, even with a big mystery for launch monitor at this time. (I live in Las Vegas, so cooling is much needed.)

I am heading to the professional sim bay near my house tomorrow. Hopefully I can get some help there, and compare the stats of their GC3 again to my GC2. Hopefully it works better this time, as the units really don't like being near eachother. They both(their GC3 and my GC2) start showing issues as far as recognizing the ball. I will pay attention to ball speed instead of just the carry numbers. Great idea, and thank you for mentioning. I remember them saying their GC3's and their GCQuad automatically sense the elevation of the location.

I will also see if I can figure out the drivers for the GC2 unit, so I can at least have my computer see it. I see hookup information for protee(I believe, don't know if that is for a different program), but having a hard time finding stuff that is GSPRO specific.

I appreciate, again, the two of you for responding.

So I took the GC2 to compare to the GC3 units at the local simulator bay setup. The ball speed seemed to be quite similar(8 iron) but the carry distance was off by 10 yards. So, thank you SFR, it does appear it is most likely different because of the altitude and dry air that the GC3 and GCQuad automatically adjust for.

Now I just need to figure out the GSPro subscription and how to hook up the GC2 unit through usb. If anyone has any tips for GC2 usb to GSPro I am all ears.

I have a gc2 and have been around them since I worked at Golfsmith 2013-2017. I have never seen them say Bluetooth needs service. I have heard on a Reddit thread that you may need a dongle in order to use the Bluetooth effectively. Not entirely sure tho. Might want to look into that. I have always just used the usb for my fsx software but I am also looking into getting gspro as well for it. Good luck.
