FSX Play - control box?

Can anyone get a control box to work with shortcuts for fsx play? My own box works great with TGC, gs pro etc but even basic controls don’t work with Play e.g. left/right arrows work on a wireless keyboard but not with the control box.

Anyone know why… or even better have a solution?!

Was a solution for this ever discovered? I have the exact problem, my arcade style box I made works perfect with TGC and I get nothing with FSX.
