Club Selection in FSX

Does selecting the club you're hitting with matter? Like if it's set as driver off the tee box, and I'm actually hitting with a 7i does it really matter? Are there some calculations in the game I'm throwing off by not using the right club? For FSX Play or FSX 2020

Club selection has no impact on the calculations but is useful for analysis and tracking purposes.

Interesting. I was hitting on the foresight sports training facility driving range and had Driver selected, it was reading my 7 iron about 10-20 yards shorter than my normal hits, changed to 7i on the sim and it was spot on. Maybe it was just the difference between being more warmed up.
