  • GCQ Putting Ball Speed

I'd like to improve my lag putting with GCQ, but the screen only displays ball speed. I'm unsure of the corresponding distance for a given ball speed. Is there a chart or formula available to calculate this information? Thanks!

I have a Quad and I have actually never thought of it in the way you question was asked. Here is why, Green speed can be all over depending on the course you play, elevation and slope of the green in which are putting. With that said, I would go into a practice mode on one of your apps, and work on long putting. For me, I use feel of the take away to determine how far I want the ball to travel. When ever I go and play a new course I hit a few 10 foot putts to get a fee for the speed. Then I will hit a few 30 footers in both directions to see how slick or slow against the grain.

In my sim, my screen is 10 ft away. In game mode I typically have it at 11 (unless I want to watch my friends suffer, I will go 13 on some Georgia course) on the stimp in game mode. Knowing I have a 10 foot distance to the screen and the distance of the putt helps with a feel for me. Some of my friends struggle with distance control in the sim as they are more visual putters.

Kcct82 - I have a FB Combo Matt and I find 12 on the Stimp seems to match up well for FSX Play. I use 10-11 for GS Pro.

To your question though, I have seen a few charts for putting break the Aim Point crowd uses (1% slope = roughly 1.5 inches of break per foot at a "normal" Stimp of 10). I have never seen one which describes distance. As Scottygolf says, I am more of a feel player - I take the putter back so far for a 10/20/30 footer etc. I suppose it would be very tough to create a distance chart given everyones difference in tempo, how hot the face of the putter etc. is and so on.

Following though as I am curious what others think or know.

Thanks for your reply. Here is a Phil Kenyon Putting Academy chart that I've been using for practice on my stimp 10 putting turf. I've honed my skills quite well within the 3-12ft range. However, assessing the accuracy of putts beyond 12ft is challenging since my putting mat is limited to a length of 15ft. Having a "ball speed to stimp 10 distance chart" would be incredibly helpful, allowing me to confirm if my putts are within the expected range.

Actually, I just realized I can utilize my Exputt for this exact practice...
