Lost Alignment Stick

Somehow my alignment stick has been misplaced. Do I have to spend £130 on a replacement one? I have seen some advertised in us for $70 but shipping etc from there is not ideal as based in UK.

Any help appreciated.

I'd try a wood dowel. Maybe even paint it white.
