I've had FSX2020 for years and the yardages I get (GCQuad) are very accurate vs. yardages I get when I play real golf outside on my home course (or other courses for that matter). However, when I switch to FSX Play, using the same GC Quad, the yardages I get are shorter by a fair amount. I am thinking I've got a setting incorrect in FSX Play? Any thoughts?

FSX Play yardage difference vs. FSX2020

The data going to the software is the same (obviously) so "accuracy" should not be affected. FSX Play does incorporate Lie Penalties (which can be toggled off) for bunkers and rough. Varied opinions on them but I do like them - it does affect spin and speed so therefore distance as well. Maybe toggle off Lie penalties and see what you think wrt accuracy?

Piggybacking off of Jasonregs suggestions; Check altitude on the course or practice facility within FSX Play. That can drastically impact carry distances.
Also, are the distances you’re seeing within FSX the same or different than the GCQ display for the same shot?

I am seeing a similar issue with FSX Play. The carry numbers vary quite a lot from the reading off my quad. With the driver i consistently see about 10 yds less carry on the FSX Play driving range. I go into "weather" setting and adjust it to "my altitude". I also set the temp to match. Can't think of what else might be causing this..

Hmm - have not heard of that before but then again we are within a couple of hundred feet of sea level so I might not be seeing a difference. Did this show up after a Quad firmware of an FSX Play update?Originally posted by DirkDigglr View PostThis is a bug I reported a few weeks ago. Fsx play allows u to input the elevation but it ignores the input and seems to treat all the shots at sea level.

latest firmware and software installed. link to problem posted here: https://feedback.foresightsports.com...levation-error
try setting your FSX Play software to a very high elevation and see if you experience a difference between the GCQ display and FSX Play software on carry.

But why is this an error - is this not expected behavior? I see the original question was dealing with differences between 2020 and Play, with the Quad aligning with 2020. Since FSX Play is trying to add lie penalties, adjusts for fairway firmness and speed (or tries to) etc. I would expect a difference. Again, I might be missing something.Originally posted by DirkDigglr View Posttry setting your FSX Play software to a very high elevation and see if you experience a difference between the GCQ display and FSX Play software on carry.

Not entirely sure I’m following this properly and am thinking along the same lines as Jasonreg.
With that said, I’ve noticed that unless adjusting the altitude within FSX Play is the absolute last settings change you make prior to hitting play, the altitude change doesn’t take.
For example, if you set the altitude to course level and then make a change to pin location, when going back to the altitude setting you will see the altitude slider still on course level but if you look at the footage, it has reverted back you your altitude.
The only way I’ve been successful adjusting the altitude has been to make sure it’s the very last thing you click before starting the round.

I downloaded the latest version of Play, reset all my simulator settings and it still didn't work. If I turn the lie penalties off and make the altitude a bit higher than what it actually is, I can get it close to what 2020 and the GCQuad show. At the end of the day I still just don't trust the Play software. This will make the 3rd winter that I just continue to use 2020. 2020 is just solid and it's disappointing that there are still quite a few bugs in Play. 2020 just still seems better.

Sorry to hear. I used to like 2020 but I can't even remeber the last time I played it. It just looks so bad after getting used to FSX Play. I don't experience the yardage issues you do tho and I get pretty much my expected yardages and also consider its a simulator so maybe I'm not as picky.Originally posted by mts View PostI downloaded the latest version of Play, reset all my simulator settings and it still didn't work. I've noticed the same issues. I live at 7000 feet, so my distances are obviously inflated compared to sea level.
On fsx 2020, gs pro, etc I am 10-25 yards longer than on fsx play. I have set it to my elevation from gc3.
At range, off tees, fairways, etc always comes out at sea level. I've even tried manually setting it to 7000 feet and it never takes.
It's playable but annoying, i just hit the club i would if in Florida.
The readout from gc3 screen and fsx play are never close, unless it's a short chip or pitch.

It would help if you report the issue to foresight. Here is a link.
I live at 2200ft and when I use the driving range in FSX Play and I select "use my elevation" in the settings, it does NOT reflect my elevation. It appears to always use sea level elevation which results in lower carry numbers vs what is displayed on the GCQ. the GCQ displays carry based on my current elevation.
