I purchased a BLP (Ball data) about ten days ago and am currently under my 30-day return and 14-day club data trial. My question is related to face angle and, specifically, FTT and FTP. I know these are supposedly not measured by BLP/GC3, but I have read that when GSPRO used the Game Changer app to connect, these numbers were included in GSPRO. Some have said these numbers were calculated in the Game Changer app, but my question relates to whether they could have been measured and are locked by the BLP/GC3 new connector app. If that is the case, what is the opinion that these will be unlocked or even calculated by BLP/GC3 in the future? I am not sure I want to spend an additional $1500 for club data, making the unit $3500, not to mention the subscription cost each year, and have no face angle measurements. Mevo Plus with a pro package seems an option since you have additional data parameters, including face angle, and no subscription costs. I'm enjoying BLP/GC3, but I'm not sure if I want to be locked in without an option to have a face angle at some point. On a side note, I noticed that Awesome Golf is giving dynamic loft measurements, which, to my knowledge, is not included in BLP/GC3 data parameters. So, to me, these numbers may be available within the BLP/GC3 but possibly locked so it doesn't infringe on the GCQuad market. Thoughts?

BLP measures club speed, club path, and angle of attack for club data and that's all it's capable of measuring with 1 dot on the club.
Face angle is mostly the same as ball horizontal launch angle so game changer used that and club path to estimate face angle.
Awrsome Golf might be referring to Dynamic Loft as Spin Loft which is the difference of vertical launch angle and angle of attack. Dynamic Loft is the loft of the club face at impact which the BLP can't measure.
Ball data is far superior to club data and BLP is excellent at that. And the club data it provides is accurate. Mevo+ and any radar unit is far inferior with ball data indoors so that would be a horrible trade! Not to mention chipping and putting is horrible with radar.

Thank you for commenting on this. I appreciate it. I have enjoyed the BLP. I had the original Mevo that I also own and had it hooked up behind me yesterday along with the BLP, and although ball speed was spot on, the club speed was consistent at five mph faster, and the carry was close but short; maybe 4-7 yards every time. I believe this was due to spin not being calculated correctly due to not having any dots on the ball. HLA looks pretty close to the face angle as you said, assuming a center strike. I did find a chart someone put together that appears to be very close to what someone posted using an LM that does, in fact, track FTP FTT. So that is helpful, but without seeing the face impact, it's all just math for the BLP/GC3. I'm unsure how MEVO+ with the pro package can do it if you don't add their Face impact for an additional $500. I'm not exactly sure what awesome golf is calculating, but it does say dynamic loft. I guess what I wanted to know is if anyone had heard anything about BLP ever showing FTT or FTP in the future, even if it is calculating it based on HLA, Tilt Angle, and Club Path.

That's it right here. Just a shame that basically Face to Path and Face Impact location are locked behind an additional $10k Paywall.
Here is the funniest thing. Every weekend we see tour pros on the range with their quads warming up. None of them have stickers on their clubs, so they are just using ball data. I am sure they do more behind the scenes, but it always makes me chuckle bit.
My best bet is that the hardware in the GC3 could measure F2P and Impact location if foresight wanted them to. I am really hoping that some competitor puts out a camera based LM that gives more data an really puts pressure on them in the 4-6k price range. Most of our wives would kill us if we bought a LM that costs as much as a decent used car. LOL.

JaybirdCU -- you make a valid point but, the pros on the range don't look at that data. They are using their LMs for only one purpose...to see what the carry distance of the shot is. They calibrate on the range to see how their carry distances are affected by the environmental factors that day. Altitude, air density, temperature, etc... They just want to know the accurate carry distances as that can vary by 10 yards or more per shot.

ChetM - How does the GC Quad factor in environmental conditions for carry distance? It only tracks the ball for 18 inches?

For me, the most important data was club path and HLA. These two data points, which are only available with the upgrade, helped me hone in my game as if those numbers are off, the carry distances don't matter... I think as you get deeper into your game and analysis, these data points will be desired in terms of bettering your game.

to measure face 2 to path and face to target you need 2 cameras looking at the face.
the gc3 has only 1 camera looking at face (it can not do it)
the quad has 2 (it can do it with great accuracy)
nothing is locked or hidden
the software packages (eg SKYtrack) that show this measure without 2 cameras are just guessing based on ball flight
and the guesses are often way off (you can see this if you plug a quad into the shy track software and compare the quad screen to the skytrack guess)
here is the scary math that explains why
