  • GC2 needs repair?

It just happened overnight and flaked out today for some reason. GC2 will not lock on the ball. It boots up fine and recognizes HMT. I tried hard reset, holding the power button down and i unplugged HMT and everything else. Also tried a spare flash and it would show a ball for about 2 seconds when it boots, but then just doesn't see it anymore.

Looks like a few people have gone to Andy for help, andygg1986 I tried send you a message, but your PMs are full. Is this something you could repair?

I am not doing repairs anymore. I had a bad experience with trying to help someone out and decided the risk reward ratio wasn’t worth it. Try cleaning the camera lenses and take a video of the GC2 as you move a ball around. You should see the LEDs lighting up in sections behind the large black window at the top

Bummer. I’m getting no led lights lighting up. All the lenses are clean.

I've come across a GC2 that wouldn't lock on the ball. It was left plugged in all the time and eventually, the battery became totally dead. After putting a new battery in the GC2 locked on the ball and worked normally. This is just a wild guess, but maybe your power supply is going bad.

8.61 V shows when it is plugged in. How long can you run it before the battery drains? A healthy battery is 3-4 hours usually. You know you are getting close to battery draining when it is around 6.5V

Usually a full charge will show (once unhooked from power) around 7.8V.

I see 7.8ish unplugged. Gspro sees it connected too. It’s what Andy said. I’m not getting the led lights to turn on to lock on the ball and everything is clean.

ok, battery is not dead, but not an issue either, it could be replaced at some point. my unit is a 14xxx serial number and hw 3 with bluetooth. it's newer in respect to others. i tried it without the battery installed, disconnected the HMT, cleaned all camera's. the LEDs will not fire to lock on the ball. I'm getting no lock action. I emailed Foresight and the answer was basically send it in, but we can't guarantee when we will fix it. Anything else I can try? anyone have a schematic i can take to a local electronics person to test? wonder if the capacitor is out. etc...

Hi andygg1986. Couldn't PM you so just thought I'd try and reach you here.

I've been given a free GC2 by a friend who said it isn't working. Wondering if it would be worth fixing.

It was hit by a ball and the plastic bit near the speaker was cracked slightly, but worked fine afterwards for over a year.

Recently the last time the flash went on it, when they replaced it with a new one the device worked for about 30 shots then the flast went again. Now they can't get it to work with any flash.

If you could give me any help I'd be very greatful. Based in the UK, would happily pay to get it looked at.

                    Thanks,
                    Jonny

My guess is that the flash power board has gone bad. Send me an email at gc2flash@gmail.com and I will send over some instructions on what to test with a multimeter

Hey andygg1986 Thank you for answering questions for us and I have one more about a gc2 that I bought on eBay that isn't working, pics related.

I read on this forum that error 0 related to a loose or faulty ribbon cable but had trouble with the hinges when attempting to take a look inside. I couldn't find any documentation for how to take it apart either which I thought was odd. Any resources or tutorials you can share? Would greatly appreciate any help, sir.

Extend the screen upward to access the screws in the back. Lifting the screen out of the frame will let you check on side of the cable's connection.

Remove the 4 screws in the face and 2 screws on the bottom side of the back battery cover to loosen the top shell. The internal connection of the screen's ribbon cable is next to the battery. A metal cover needs to be removed to see the connector.

Do this at your own risk, ymmv

Thank you for the reply, the help is much appreciated. I was able to get everything apart.

I did find that the white ribbon cable coming out of the camera area was a little loose and resecured it with the flip lock. Other than that though everything looked fine.

The tape securing the camera screen, although creased (I'm assuming as designed due to space) looked taped securely to the board. I thoroughly analyzed the boards for any chips or resisters that might have been burnt or faulty but everything looked good in there.

I assume replacement ribbon cables/parts are non-existent? Any idea what fpga innit -11 may be? Wondering what's my next move
