  • FSX Play Putting

I've been playing FSX Play with my 5 year old son. Cooked Cove with him on the blue tees and me on the blacks.
He's only hitting the ball 30-40 yards at the moment... so I've switched putting on to make it more fun for him (normally I use auto-putt as putting in a sim doesn't appeal to me).

Anyway - he's still trying to get to grips with how hard to hit it - so sometimes ends up smashing it across the green even though he was 6ft away!

I wondered if there was a way of setting it so he can putt out, then me - rather than him, him, me, him, him, me (if that makes sense?!). 1 player putts out completely, and then the other - rather than who is furthest away?

I think if you click on name in upper left you change change whose turn it is. Also it is benefical to put down some marks(tape/marker/whaterever) at 2, 4, 6, 8 feet etc up to screen which might be 10-12 feet away. This gives you some refernce for length and line to aim at. That will give him a fight chance and then he can learn 20, 30 or 40' based on lendgth of stroke. Hope this might help.

That would be nice to be able to fine tune putting settings per player!

But since the putting settings are limited, I would try a few things or combos to move things along:
      • Set putting on "Standard" and make the first putt normally, then for any follow up putts just use spacebar (turn on Putting Prediction to see the line and make it easier)
      • Turn on Mulligans to try again on a putt that gets blasted to help learn a better touch. Set a custom number limit and as skill increases, decrease the number and eventually turn off
        • Or turn on Practice Mode and enable it during putting to get a feel for how far it's going to go, then commit to an actual putt and spacebar the rest, etc.
      • Set Stroke Limit to "Double Par" to move things along
        • Too many shanks into the ocean won't make the green, so leave "Unlimited" if you must finish out the hole
        • Affects all players
