Cannot advance to second shot in FSX Play

I cannot get beyond the tee when I try to play a course in FSX Play. I am always brought back to the tee, and can only move down the course using the very glitchy drop ball function.
I was able to advance to my lie only a few times--maybe using ALT-E, but even that does not work now.
