Most Graphically (i.e. GPU) Demanding FSX Play Course

Doing some testing .... would like to run a few FSX Courses at Ultra and take some measurements with my current RTX 4080FE and compare with unobtanium to see what real benefits the extra VRAM and speed bring.

What newer course would you say struggles the most graphically? I will start with Pebble and Harbour Town.

Pebble is a great idea. I imagine courses with ocean scenes are right at the top. Maybe turn up the wind also.

Pebble Beach works fine on my old GTX1070 at 1080p with a middle graphics setting. Foresight were surprised when I told them I was still using a 1070 with reasonable success.
I've got an RTX5090 on order (since 30th Jan!) so that I can run it in 4K with the graphics on ultra.

Maybe a bit overkill... but selling my GC2 / HMT / FSX licences left me with some spare cash to burn!!

Well, I will do more in-depth testing but have the card installed (including all my expected ROPs - Bonus!) and did a quick surf around and played a couple of holes on Harbour Town v1.4.1.3

System: ASUS Z-790-E motherboard, Intel i7-14700K, 32GB G-Skill DDR5-6400 RAM, SAMSUNG 990 Pro 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD. All FSX Play Settings on Ultra.
            • With RTX 4080 Founders Edition: 11.9GB VRAM used, GPU 96% Utilization, 54 FPS (1% low - 26FPS (and as low as 8 FPS)), 15% CPU Utilization. Some noticeable stutter on ball flight, decent graphics detail.
            • With RTX 5090: 20.7 VRAM Used, GPU 97% Utilization, 234 FPS (1% low - 60FPS), 12% CPU Utilization. No noticeable stutter on ball flight, excellent graphics detail.
            • I saw no real difference with GS Pro. Both cards ran well at highest settings, perhaps more color saturation with the 5090, slightly more detail (but could be my imagination .....).
More to follow when I get a bit more time but it looks like my suspicions were correct, FSX Play will use as much VRAM as it can ..... likely no real benefit over a 4090 but the 16GB of xx80 series cards does not seem to be enough to deal with the 1% lows.

I don't think GS Pro uses DLSS, so the newer generation cards won't likely make it look much better.
FSX Play uses DLSS, so in theory, the 5090 should be better - although the 4090 is still a very well specced card - so the difference might not be noticeable.

My RTX5090 was delivered about 10 mins ago... but I'm away with work until Friday. Typical - my new 2025 P790's arrived about an hour before I left too.
Friday is going to be like Christmas for me!!

4 or 5 courses went through graphical enhancement in the past year - Royal Troon and Pinehurst being two of them. I don’t believe pebble has had that update yet and Troon definitely looks much better
