Putting is great on the GC2. Why is it concerning?

Gowster, I of course agree with bpep and mthunt... The putting via GC2 is pretty good. No need for anything else for sim golf. I don't know that I'd use it to specifically practice putting, but it's plenty good/accurate for your TGC putting needs. Spend your hard earned dough elsewhere my man.
The only advice I can give is when you set up your hitting area and your turf to hit off of, make sure that you can putt off of it as well. I have a few setups where the hitting turf is the main area and then just in front of that turf I have a putting turf (any turf that lets the ball roll smooth). This allows you to hit off a thicker turf or plug a tee into it, and then go right to the edge of it and putt from there. There is not a large window of where you place the ball for the GC2 but you can work it so the putting is right near the front of the reading area and keep the hitting slightly behind that.
The GC2 does not take much distance for the roll of the putt before it measures the speed and line. If your ball will roll true and not bounce around you should get an accurate roll. The issues would be if the ball wavers off line with the turf you putt across and the GC2 picks up the off line in the early part of the putt, it will show the rest of the putt going off line.
Thanks guys for responses. The reason I had asked was as a result of talking direct wig foresight when they indicated it wasn't optimized for putting, but would work for fun gaming. This sounds better than what he said, so Hank's for the inputs, and that money will go elsewhere now!

Gowster, I'm sure they were just trying to tell you that the accuracy isn't so good that you can use as a teaching/dial in tool for putting. That will be true of any device you use for putting. Good luck with your sim!

The reasons the GC2 isn't super accurate for putting are:
1. The azimuth measurement is +/- one degree. This corresponds to a dead in the center of the hole putt possibly being on either edge of the hole after a 10 foot travel distance.
2. The way a GC2 recognizes how to start the cameras is by detecting a ball movement of 1/2 inch. For a normal shot this really doesn't matter but for short distances, like putts, this can result in an off line started putt being significantly inaccurately computed for direction in the short distances putts travel.
Aside from that the spin rate and launch angle are plenty accurate.
Reading the slope of the greens from a two dimensional presentation in sim programs is really difficult. You may get a feel for the slope from grids and/or grid balls projected on the screen but this is a game only skill which has very little to do with reading an actual green.
When practicing, using a course simulation, I usually just put the software on auto putt and enter a suitable amount of strokes depending on the distance to the hole.
Anybody have issues with putting on TGC? I have the GSX2 and interface version 3.05i setup so all the adjustments are in the interface. Even when I turn all the putter settings (ball and club speed) to the highest level (1.5) I can't get a putt to go further than a few feet.
GSX2 is using the protee golf interface sliders. With everything set default it should give you 20' putts with +9mph ball speeds.
Use the ball drag slider to increase or decrease yardage. Less drag is more yardage. 1.5 would probably give you just a few feet.
