Tip For GC2 Recovery From A Software Hang

Today while starting up the GC2 and Sim computer the GC2 hung up. The on/off switch would not work and the background outline was on the screen.

I have experienced this on other devices which in essence use the on/of switch as a power controller input. In these instances the only way out was to remove the power source and battery. When I removed the AC adapter and internal battery connector and reconnected the battery, the GC2 booted up normally.

For anyone needing to do this there are six small phillips head screws holding the face plate plastic on, four in front and two under the hinged portion. After you remove these the plastic cover comes right off. The battery connector is held in with a plastic tab which can be released by prying it up a little.

I hope this may be helpful to anyone experiencing the same problem as sending the unit back to Foresight is a monumental PITA since the insurance for shipping is quite expensive and the round trip time from the east coast takes awhile.

And since you have seen the inside - can you say if it looks easy to replace its battery? I remember a thread somewhere stating the type of battery the gc 2 has in it and that it can be purchased online or maybe even local stores. My battery is completely dead as i always have my unit plugged in - probably for a year or more without using the battery at all.

If its just some crews and a cable that plugs into the battery i may attempt.

Once you get the plastic cover off and disconnect the battery connector you just lift the battery out. If you buy another replacement you may have to cut the connector and solder the original connector to the new battery output wires if the new battery connector is different or non existent. There are three.

The battery is a odd shape, not either round or rectangular and is a tight fit so you will have to get one in the exact or smaller shape or it won't fit. Another option is to purchase any 7.2 volt battery and solder on the same kind of connector as the ac adapter has. This would be kind of unwieldy to move around but if you don't do it often probably not a big deal.
