  • gc2 in Australia

G'day all, I am interested in a used gc2 from 2nd swing. It is a 2010 model, boot version 1.6, serial no. 1170 with latest firmware, no software. I definitely want the protee/tgc software, can I still get this for the gc2? I live in Australia and know I will have to change the power lead but will there be any other problems I could expect? Thanks for any help.

TGC/ Protee is available. It's software so it doesn't matter where you are. You need Bluetooth though.

G'day mate, thanks for the info. I know I will need a bluetooth adapter, I can't find anyone in Aus that sells the adapters that are known to work. Seems like I will have to buy from the states maybe. I have read that protee/tgc software may not work with updated firmware for the gc2 or may be stopped from working in the near future, also very interested in PG sim.

        I use this

Sold all over the world and works great. I have also tried various other adapters and built in Bluetooth and they all worked fine.

Cheers davray666, that is the adapter I am looking for as it was recommended in this forum. Every search I have done online sends me to the states. No probs, will find it somewhere here in Aus. I may try another adapter and see how it goes. Do you think the used gc2 from 2nd swing is a good idea or is new the way to go. Thanks for the info.

I only have experience from buying a used from 2nd Swing. The people there where responsive and all they promised in terms of condition, delivery etc ... was accurate.
I also bought a spare flash from them and my unit can run 4h+ on battery. So my rating on that experience is 10 out of 10.
Problem is that if you are in Australia like I am in Sweden. In case you do run in to problems that 2nd swing could not have foreseen. They will help you (I assume) but you only have 1 month warranty and in my case I had to wait more than 1 month for it to get here since it was hand carried by a friend.
So a bit of luck is required I guess.

To buy a new from Foresight is probably a great and very safe experience. For me that live in Sweden I would have had to buy it from the rep in UK. GC2 + spare flash = 6900$ (1 year old price) That is more than double since I paid 3200$ (flash, VAT and US shipping included)
So you have to choose between piece of mind and an empty wallet or risk/reward.

-jasefarrell74, rumours are just that. I wouldn't worry about future firmwares. Worst case, just leave the firmware that works. TGC/ GC2 works great and will continue to. PG is in beta testing so it's an unknown as to when it'll be out and working well but testers say it's promising.

Thanks mate, would also like a spare flash, didn't know they were selling them as well. I can not find anything on 2nd swing website relating to gc2, have only come across this through ebay aus. Thanks for the help.

I dont think you will have a problem with the firmware - a lot of people run 3.5.0 - i have been running 3.7.0 for almost a year with no issues. 3.10.0 is the newest version and a few people have said it works with tgc. As of 3.7.0 i know for fact that you could downgrade the firmware by just installing a prior version over it. I assume 3.10 is like that to but i have not tried it yet.

Tgc does not use the carry number from the gc2 so even if foresight is updating their carry algorithms in the firmware it will not affect tgc. In my mind, the only firmware issue to worry about is if foresight starts encrypting the data stream from the unit and also prevents people from rolling back to a prior firmware version. The only way the firmware could make a difference in tgc is if they made changes to how their measured numbers were derived.

Good luck with getting one..its a great unit.
