GC2 E-Bay Scam is back!

just wondering how he expects to get away with it? Even if someone was to bite and purchase outside of ebay, if they use a credit card they could get their money back, if they use paypal they'd also get their money back. In the end he can't really win can he?

A scammer will never allow you to pay with any type of method that is 1. traceable and/or 2. protects the buyer. They will almost always request Western Union, Walmart or other wire transfer.

The scam usually involves asking the purchaser to issue a bank transfer through Wells Fargo.

Someone who has received his bank transfer instructions should instruct the bank (if indeed it's Wells Fargo) to investigate the account for fraud and have bank close account and report to authorities.

The last time this exact listing was shown, I did "play" with the seller. We had a number of back and forth emails. I asked for additional photos and he sent them. I asked for serial numbers and he sent them. When I inquired why the shipping location kept changing for the exact listing (e.g., Arkansas, Utah, now PA), he didn't answer why but said it would ship from Arkansas. One of his emails stated "If I was ready to buy, just send my full name and address so he could create the invoice in eBay". Interesting......

Actually, I just went back and looked at the emails. He responded to my last email to let me know where it would ship from. It was removed from eBay. So, I sent him another email asking him if it had sold. He never responded to that one.

Reported. I think i have reported 7 or 8 of these. He sends an invoice from "ebay" that uses a 3rd party checkout. He might be able to run with the money before they ge t charged back from the credit card service.

Amazing that eBay hasn't modernized anti-fraud stuff. For starters, they should have the ability to tag a picture itself as an automatic flag for a fraud auction. Google now has the ability to search for "similar" images. eBay is a big enough company that they can develop technology allowing them to ban an exact image used by a scammer. It could be used on a case by case basis, such as when a dude keeps using the same photo like this.

Would it stop him from using a stock photo? No. But it would at least slow him down and make the fraud auction look even less legit.

I think the best course of action is to pretend to go through the process, get the bank numbers and turn that over to the police.

You aren't going to get any info other than email.
1. This person uses a sketchy checkout interface sent though email where you pay with card.
2. Who is going to investigate? Local police at best will pretend to care and then laugh when you leave
3. Even if you had the info nothing could be done. Im sure this person is international.
4. I work for a bank and all you can do is dispute you charge and most reputable banks will get you back your money.

#2 is not necessarily correct. I have a bunch of experience as a police detective. Yes, there is always the chance that you could encounter a "zero" (police terminology for a lazy cop that refuses to do anything) and have him blow you off. But the proper thing to do is refer it to the feds. There are absolutely ways to catch these people. All he needs to do is screw up once (e.g. forget to turn on VPN, etc). You can also follow the money instead of trace him by technical means.

Still, the proper place to report is not to the boys. It should be put in through IC3.

The feds are going to be the only direction that has jurisdiction. But i still feel you would be bottom of the barrel. If ebay had 40 occurrences and there investigation team reported it then you might get some traction.

This guy has posted fraudulent GC2 with courses, Flightscope X2 and Trackman 3e this week. I reported him each time for putting his contact information in the ads. Ebay killed the ads within a few hours each time.

Thanks for reporing this Leek....I literally almost bought one from him! Had my eye on it for a few hours, then as soon as I finally decided to bid - it was gone... The irony? It came back a couple of days later, so I sent him an email asking "what happened; did the 1st buyer back out?" His response: "no, they bought it, but I have many....blah blah blah..."

All I can say is I'm GLAD I FOUND THESE FORUMS, lol...
