  • GC2 Questions

New guy here. Was looking to get a GC2 and was wondering if foresight is still charging a $1000 SDK fee? Also any recommendations on other vendors that sell a GC2 for a better price?

What level does the GC2 need to sit compared to the ball? Foresight sells a steel protective case. I noticed at a local golfstore that the steel case causes the unit to sit somewhat higher off the mat compared to not using a case. So if the GC2 sits higher(because of the steel case) is that better or does that change the ball flight?

Within reason it doesn't matter. The unit inside the steel enclosure is as level as steel enclosure is level on it's bottom surface.. The unit finds the ball and sets the camera to capture the ball flight with multiple stereoscopic exposures. Actually it doesn't even need to be level as long as you have run the tilt calibration software with the unit perfectly level at the time the software was run. If you think about it any launch monitor that has to be level is useless outdoors since all tees, practice facilities etc are always constructed with some tilt for drainage reasons. After they have been around for awhile the tilt gets worse due to erosion, settling etc.

If you are looking for a better price you might want to look at a used unit. In reality the only thing that wears out is the battery which can be replaced for under 100 bucks. The rest is not consumable unless someone dropped it from a high height or whacked it with a hosel rocket. There are usually a few available with the basic software on eBay or other locations.

True if the unit was used a lot since the flash module was new. In my case I bought a used unit and after two years of ownership and a lot of use the one that came with the unit is still going strong. The spare I bought is still sitting in it's ship packing. Seems like unless you are running the GC2 in a business, home use takes a long time to wear out the flash unit. Since I changed the firmware, awhile back, I have no idea what the flash total is since the module was first installed.

From my Foresight sales rep, he says "SDK fee has nothing to do with warranty on the GC2", but i have no idea if they are still charging it or not.

I think you'll probably get the best price buying directly from Foresight, but if you're looking around, definitely contact Corey from Par2pro. (i have had good experience dealing with him)

As for the flash module, my first one that came with the unit seemed to only last for about a year.

On new units, all resellers and Foresight are still charging an sdk if you don't buy their software.
