FSX Crash

Got my GC2 yesterday and have been playing a little bit with a makeshift tarp and almost golf balls until my screen and projector come in. I've noticed that FSX crashes a lot, pretty much every time I launch it for the first time after I turn on the computer. I have to kill it via the task manager, and then it is usually stable after I restart FSX. I'm running all the latest software and firmware versions from the Foresight website. I built my computer myself (I've build over 50 so I know what I'm doing there), the only thing that may be an issue is that I'm running an AMD 7970 video card instead of the recommended Nvidia cards.

Anyone else have this issue?

I found out from experience that if I turned on the GC2 before the software for FSX or FR1 had completed loading there was a crash every now and then. The Foresight instructions state the preferred sequence of turning on the software and GC2.

When mine crashed I just restarted the software and then the GC2. The other problem with not following the sequence is sometimes the software would not recognize the GC2 was connected. This happened on two different computers both with a GPU specified by Foresight for the software being run.

Which ver of FSX are you running on? The newest one is ver 2.1 and there is an option to run graphics at "performance" which basically just removes all the 3D grass and improve framerate if you don't have a beefy video card.

I am using an AMD card as well and had problems with crashes which i thought were due to the video drivers, but over some trial and error i have found out that the crashes were happening because i did not have a valid sound output. (My speakerphones on my projector got busted so i disabled it) and this caused FSX to crash. Once i re-enabled the speaker phones or used a bluetooth speaker, the crashing stopped.

If you want to try upgrading anything, go for the RAM first and make sure you got 8GB. However, i do agree that FSX is still pretty buggy and prone to crashes.

Thanks. I think you are on to something with the sound output. I tweaked some of the sound settings and rebooted, then was able to play a round on FSX with no crashes! I'll continue to monitor it, but I think I'll be upgrading to the new Nvidia 1080 graphics card when it comes out in a few weeks. That should eliminate any issues with graphics.

Yeah, the new nvidia gpus look really interesting, but unless you are gaming on it, i think the 1080 is overkill. If you are looking to boost frame-rates for FSX, upgrading to windows 10 also seemed to help me almost double my framerates to around 60fps. However, the change was in conjuction with upgrading FSX to ver 2.1 and installing new drivers for win10, so i can't really say which factor helped the most. But since upgrading to win 10 is free until July, you might as well give it a try to see if it boosts framerates to acceptable levels before buying the 1080.
