    HMT question

So I pulled the trigger this week and upgraded my gc2 with the hmt camera. It really is awesome and helps tremendously in the amount of information given and really expands the utility of FSX.

For example I see how it would be very helpful on lie angle adjustments for irons. As I was fitted the standard way and told I was "neutral" which surprized the fitter as he expected me to be 1 degree down based on my size. However, on the hmt I am 1 degree down indeed on impact. I'm found I can alter my setup and get pretty close to neutral although I could also have my shafts redone.

However on the driver I use a 10.5 460 cc M1 and I'm typically 8-10 degrees "up". I can't seem to find any info on what is optimal for a driver or how I would adjust this in my set up. Obviously when the driver is placed on the grounds in neutral shape and weighting but it tow up.

I only know of a couple companies that sell drivers with lie angles in the range that would give you a flat lie at impact. Most companies have lie angles made for the masses (very upright shaft at impact), and therefore aren't great for a "better" player.

But, bad lie angles are less and less important to correct the less loft the club has. So a bad lie angle on the driver is not really important, not as important to fix as a bad lie on a wedge.

Also 1* of lie difference is well within my variance on each swing, so I personally wouldn't worry about it.

Are you sure those angles are lie angles? They sound more like angle of attack which doesn't really relate to the lie of the club head.

Lie angle is usually referred to as upright or flat, not up or down.

        HMT reports lie angle too.

It sounds like he's got it right.

Drivers (if you consider lie angle of 0 to be parallel with grooves) are crazy upright now-a-day.

I think drivers are more toe up. Here's mine at set up and I'm 6'1". My coach took the pic. I wouldn't worry about. It's hit off a tee and no divots.

Yes the HMT does report lie angle at impact as neutral or "up" or "down" although I think you are right that lie angle doesn't mean that much with the driver. The M1 does allow for lie adjustment (stock is 56 degrees and you can adjust up to 60 degrees) but its not really affecting my shots much. Obviously its face angles, strike point and path... I will say the HMT is really awesome and it makes theFSX and the associated iPad app really impressive. For 12K however they should throw in the $50 iPad app IMO....
