  • Camera for FSX

I have the same webcam (Logitech c920)as ks-man but I can not get my swing to record in FSX. Any ideas?

Is there a better camera option? It is kinda dark in my setup. Maybe I need some better lighting before I worry about a camera.

I have a Nikon D810 and I downloaded an app that will allow me to use it as a webcam but the quality is very grainy. I'm not sure if it is the app, the fact that it uses usb to connect or the poor lighting. Maybe a combination of all three.

I wonder if something like this would work much better. Pretty expensive plus I would have to buy a lens. https://www.ptgrey.com/grasshopper3-...pregius-imx174

I'm reading the manual now and I think I just need to turn Enable video preview on.

Not totally sure why it isn't recording with fsx, but if the quality is an issue i would make it as bright as possible first and put a light decent light source on either side of you and see from there first. I got the c930 and wasn't happy with the quality at all at firs until I put a light on the ground behind me with the piece of paper over it as a filter and it got much better. It's definitely a bit annoying playing with that much light though so still working on the best of both options.

For those curious, just look up 3 point lighting on YouTube. I was only doing the two lights from behind but there it is at least some very interesting info given about lighting.

And I was laggy when using obs and worked much better with shadowplay for whatever reason, but haven't gone back and tried anything else since getting the lighting better

I'll try adding some lighting. Thanks Ironstrokes.

Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone has had success with a webcam? I am looking to upgrade my setup and any recommendations would be welcome. Thanks!

The Image Source camera SDK23G618 works well. Can control shutter speed, works well in ambient light, not need a lot distance from golfer.

I just tried the DFK23G618 (I think that's what you meant?). Anyway it only shows 4 FPS (which happens to be the lowest setting when you run IC Capture). In IC Capture I can get to work at 120 FPS no problem. Was there anything special you had to do to get it to work with FSX? Thanks!

Great thread, relevant to my interests.

If we can get Webcams to work, the Microsoft is going to be the way to go. Whatever you think of their software, the hardware has always been good to go. Especially the Webcams.

How much does the Image Source camera SDK23G618 cost?

$750.00. Whichever camera you choose make sure at least 120 FPS. This is not HD but does not be. The key is seeing your shaft through out your screen. Other important must have features: control shutter speed - need to see image in ambient light, and need good zoom. Thus can see entire golfer with distances as short as 8 feet.

Type errors. Not need to be HD but need to see club shaft throughout entire swing without "bending".

CB, any chance you could post a video so we can see an example of what that camera can do?

Go to All Sports Systems website. They have demo videos of their cameras. I purchased my camera through them. I also purchased Motion View Sofware analysis program. A very good program. Much more features than V1 golf but no mobile app. I suspect if go through The Image Source you may getter a better price. They have a newer version of the camera but suspect not worth I assume increased price. The customer service for all sports systems was excellent. I use Gige ( Ethernet connection).
