GC 2 Newbie - Found Good Used Unit...Now What

After debating and watching for a while, I found a good nearly new unit for under 5k. Now, I need to figure out what are the best software/simulation solution and what type of hardware I will need.

Is TGC still the best Option? Fsx software gotten better and worth it if I may later add the hmt? What is the cost difference and what else do I need to get? I assume I will also get the iPad app for 50 bucks.

Hey Rob, this is the question asked once a month. It's completely subjective, so you can get many opinions. From my perspective, just a few things to consider. How important are graphics? TGC is better there. How important are officially licensed golf course replicas? FSX wins there, although TGC has many very near true to life recreations. Would you like many choices? TGC wins there. Price a factor? TGC wins there. Is game improvement/analysis the bigger priority? FSX wins there. Plenty of reading to do on here discussing this topic down to the movement of the trees. You may have a hard time deciding no matter how much you read. The best advice would be to try to see both in person, and then weigh the merits of each. It's doubtful that you'd regret buying TGC, but you may regret buying FSX, unless you're a range rat. If you're going to spend lots of time analyzing swing data, then TGC wouldn't be the better pick as there isn't a way to pull that data back as with FSX. That's my take. Wait here and you'll get 5 more, all a little different. You'll probably end up like the majority of us, and have at least 2 prices of software. Congratulations and good luck!

Get TGC and the foresight iPad app. I have FSX but I would be okay with just TGC and the iPad app even when I'm using HMT.

The most cost effective, best of both worlds configuration for GC2 is to get TGC for fun, and Foresight's previous generation FR1 analysis software for range analysis and its ability to work with HMT. Get the fun factor first, and get it right the first time.

I 2nd this! And I just listed FR1 for sale in the classifieds! FR1 is great software. I purchased FSX for something that was important to me; putting analysis with the HMT. Don't get me wrong, FSX is a little more refined, but also has its quirks. I also own the iPad app. I own TGC as well, and love it! All have their pros and cons. Everything above is solid advice. The more options, the better. But it doesn't come free, or cheap for that matter!
