Hook Spin indoor

I'm using a GC2 on a full CCE mat. For some reason, my short irons hook. I get 500-700 L RPM with 8, down to over 1000 L with sand wedge. I really have to work to hit a fade. What's crazy is when I play IRL I hit it pretty straight with the same clubs. I find myself giving 3 clicks to the right on irons. Today I went to the range off of grass and hit shots with the same set up. I used two alignment rods and set the up both inside and out the same. The first shot with a 9 was 0 RPM. Most were 200 or so R. I'm righty. Then I checked the lie angle and all the clubs were correct. I hit off of a board with tape and impact was in the middle. Divots are even. Then I went home and the first nine iron was 1000rpm draw. The ball usually is 1 or 2 L or R on path.

I'm at a loss. Can it be the mat? Any thoughts or similar experiences? I thought maybe alignment or being inside. My buddy plays a small fade and hits it exactly the same indoor.

I have the exact same problem and setup as you! I went to get my lie angles checked just two days ago because I also figured that might be the problem. Turns out they are a little too flat which should make it fade if anything. The worst part is that even if you aim to the right on a full swing wedge and land it close to the hole, it will spin way left after it lands. I was thinking about building the DIY Truestrike mat that Mike80 has posted to see if that helps. Please post if you figure anything out!

I have the same setup also and get high left spin from my wedges over 1000 L with the sand wedge. Not sure the exact spin I get outdoors but it doesn't seem to be that much left spin. I wish I didn't give my True Strike away I would try that and see if it was any different

I have the same mat but with a skytrak and I have the same issue. I do not hit that much of a draw outside with my 8, 9, pw, aw, gw, or sw.

Some random thoughts: Have you made absolutely sure you aren't hitting the mat? Could you be sinking down in the cce enough to change you swing? Are you swinging slightly different inside? Do you swing the same clubs outside and in? Same ball?

It's not me or the ball. I use the same ball outside as I do inside. Its either being in the room or the mat. I don't see how it's the room. It's pretty big. I'll bring my LM to a range with the same mat and try that.

Taking the LM and mat to the range sounds like a good idea.

Hard to tell if our swing changes indoors. I'm not sure it is simply a matter of time to adjust or even size fo space. Simply being indoors seems to be enough a lot of times. Do you have one of those swing analyzers like Zepp or something? Maybe try recording your swing both inside and out and then compare to see if you can see any changes?

I also wonder if standing on the full mat might make an difference. It is a little squishy compared to a driving range or fairway so maybe that is affecting your swing?

It's a strange one...I'll be interested when you figure it out. I suspect we'll all learn something.

The ball idea is an interesting one. I would try to bring a range ball home and give it a try on your sim and see how that goes, the range balls can be weird sometimes

Might hit the mat a little with the wedges but not fat ball first maybe a little too much shaft lean - same ball, never sure but indoors short clubs same swing, longer clubs maybe not, have a hard time indoors with the driver, 3w great and same clubs. Most of the time have draw/hook spin anyways just seems like a lot of the mat with the wedges. Funny thing when playing well I hit 5 yard draw with a 7i and I ask the pro if that was too much and he said are you kidding that's not bad so now I just play what my swing is giving me and adjust as needed

Ah gotcha, that is strange then. I feel like there may be some effect on a swing when doing it indoors at first but that probably goes away after a month or so (especially if you have plenty of space like it sounds like you do), so im sure youre most likely well over the indoor/outdoor issue by now. My feeling is like its gotta be the mat at this point, but that seems weird to me as well, definitely interested in hearing your results.

Yeah same here. I assumed it was that the CCE allows my wedge to come in super flat, without bending to the ground.

Same here though, always left spin. Usually over 1000 rpm left.

Is it just in TGC or do you also see this on other software?

It's on the launch monitor. It's not TGC

Was just wondering if maybe it was tgc. I haven't used my skytrak range to see if it's happening for me in there as well.

I have the same issue. The way I "correct" it is in GSX I turn the wedge sidespin all the way down... seems to get close to real life. Then for irons I turn the sidespin down maybe 10%.... this isnt perfect but its the best solution I've found.

The problem there is you're not allowed to do that for tournaments.

I would not be surprised at all if the root cause has to do with your feet sinking into the mat. I get all kinds of strange things going on because of that effect. I can't wait to replicate the mat that Mike80 built. I just haven't had any time to do anything except for work/kids/sleep/repeat lately. Very interested to see what you figure out.
