    Does a base GC2 include any software?

    Im just kicking around the idea of a used GC2 versus a Skytrak, but I can't seem to find an answer as to what sort of software is included with a GC2

    Does it come with the basic driving range program, or is that a separate purchae?

      There is no software included with a GC2. Technically you can use it without any software by reading the numbers off the display.
      You can buy the iPad app for about £50 / $50 that allows you to get a graphic of where the ball goes.
      Foresight do FR1 and FSX software, which costs a lot, and you can also use 3rd party software like TGC, Protee etc.

          I'm just not too familiar with the software wide of things. What would the basic driving range software cost from Foresight?

              The basic software is FR1. It was $2195. Not sure now. Likely the same.

                  They are actually wiling to deal on FR1, especially now that FSX is out. At least in the summer months when things are slower.

                  Back to looking at a Skytrak. lol

                      BMan as someone who owned the Skytrak and GC2. I would go with a GC2. The extra money for the GC2 is well worth it. Now for software you can always look at jack nicklaus perfect golf. I believe its $250. JNPG is the company that does all the PGA flyovers.

                        Seconded. I have owned ST, ES16 and now GC2. Not even close. It wins hands down for the giant area in which it can see the ball alone. I'd avoid buying used. They retain their value to the point that the average price on eBay is damn near close to what a new one would cost you with software.

                        I bought a used GC2 that didn't have any software and only have TGC. It has driving ranges in addition to lots of courses and online tournaments and costs $1k. Still not cheap, but less than FR1. I believe the foresight software currently has more features in terms of tracking distances with clubs, but some of that is supposedly coming out in TGC soon. If you just want to create a virtual driving range, Skytrak with the included software is going to be your best bet for the price since you won't be paying for features you don't want. If you think you might want to play rounds and online tournaments, you will probably end up with either JNPG ($250/year) or TGC ($1000 one time fee). Those cost the same whether you have a Skytrak or GC2, but with the Skytrak you have to also pay $100/year to Skytrak. There are lots of people who are happy with both systems, so you can't really go wrong with either.
