Im talking a very old GC2 with model number in the low 1000 with no apple bluetooth. Have there been any hardware improvements in later models that I would be missing out on?

Not sure.
A couple years ago 2nd Swing sold a boatload of GC2 of that vintage so a lot of people have them. I don't think there has been any suggestion that they are somehow less accurate or whatever.
But for sure there has been updates to the hardware. Again haven't heard they are performance related. I suspect they are production, parts obsolescence and reliability revisions but that's only a guess.
I've heard that those older units have repair issues given old hardware but that never seemed to bother all the people buying the things at the time so nothing is different today! Most sold in the 2-3k range.
It would be interesting to hear from people who bought those units if they've had any repairs and/or issues but if they do they don't post about it much.
Make sure the bluetooth actually works. I recall some of those were sold with broken Bluetooth.

Mine is around serial number 360 I think. It was a Nike branded one that I paid $2800 for. I had to have the bluetooth repaired and flash replaced when I received it (total cost for both was around $500). They didn't put the apple bluetooth in but could have for more money. I have read that the flash circuitry changed at some point to allow their new $500 super flash to work. I think it has to do with using a larger capacitor but lower voltage to prolong the flash life, and can be done for around $75. So far I haven't had any issues using mine with TGC though.Comment

The published accuracy specs have been the same forever.
As far as the modification for the new $500 "super" flash unless you are running a commercial business all day every day you would be a lot better off financially to buy a 5.95 flash tube replacement and spending about 5 minutes replacing the burnt out one. There is nothing in the flash modules except the xenon flash tube and a trigger transformer. The modules are easy to disassemble with a utility knife and a little heat to soften the glue which holds the module sides together..
My serial number is 2133 and as long as you update to the latest firmware, you should be good to go. I have no idea if the bluetooth is installed/works since I have no need to use it as I am usb connected to the sim computer and use FR1 for simulation.Comment
