  • How daunting of a task is a battery swap?

I just got a used GC2A and the battery is dead. Not the end of the world but I am a lefty and play a ton with my stepson who is a righty, and the cord is a pain. I called Foresight and they made it sound easy to fry the CPU during a battery swap, resulting in a $1500-$2000 repair. I don't mind paying them for the install but I do mind the 10-15 business day downtime when I am using the unit every day through the winter.

Are they actually that much of a risk to install? Lets discuss this one.

    Thanks,

    Bob

i will not give any help on that I sent 4 units to Foresight and will pay about 600-800 a piece for them to go through these and yes change a few batteries that were only holding 5 hours of time. but there is a video to show you how to do this on foresight.

I wouldn't change a battery that lasts 5 hours given my new one doesn't last much longer than that. Run them down flat then recharge. They should be fully discharged and recharged about once a month.

Changing batteries requires opening the case so I suppose anything can happen but changing the battery is just a simple disconnect/ reconnect of the connector. Just make sure you have no static electricity charge on you when doing the swap.

You paid what to replace a battery lasting 5 hours? That was a bad idea dude.

Interesting, my new one is maybe 6 hours. It might depend how they are being used.

        Go here

If you can walk and chew gum you are overqualified to accomplish the task.

Wow, it's just a 6 cell battery like we used to us in RC cars. I have 100's of those cells in my storage room. I could build one of the packs in about 10 minutes, shrink wrap and all. How much do they sell the battery for? It's worth about 20 bucks.

they sell for 65.00 at foresight plus shipping, i had to call BS on them trying to tell me 200 to replace the other day, I think the comment was "no way in hell are you charging me 30.00 a minute" haha

If they want $600-800 to "go through" them maybe you ARE paying $30 a minute! Lol. I mean what are they ACTUALLY DOING for your money? When I bought mine I asked and never got a clear answer so I just ran the calibration tool and updated to the latest firmware myself. It took about 2 minutes...that's $400 a minute unless they do more than that... lol

I know they threw up a rough number then when i got into the nuts and bolts of the costing, it became BS. I said send me what i need and I will take care of it, because what i see is about 30 minutes per machine then I got thats not policy we can not sell parts, so now if its justified I will pay if not it will not be pleasant.
