  • Distance Ball to Screen

I know they recommend 8 feet of ball flight minimum for the R10. Anyone playing with a little less. I have a Net Return Home and at 8 feet im flying wedges over. I think at 7 feet I can probably at least hit my gap wedge and not fly it. Anyone playing at less than 8 feet and getting good results?

I see the same issue. I have 8ft ball to screen and my distances are consistently 10% to 20% short. At 9ft, it improves and I expect 10ft it would be right on the money. This after clearing up all my interference issues.

Chuck - where are you at with the latest Garmin release? I found over last weekend that my Driver seems to be spot on, but my fairway woods and irons are all off 10%-20%? I bump up the Course Elevation by 5,000 feet every time - but it seems they increased distance on driver now, but it is still low on anything else, have you found that?

It has to do with the amount of ball revolutions before it hits the net, You can easily figure out how many revolutions you will get by knowing your ball speed and taking a taking an estimate of the ball spin. You will need at least two complete revolutions to get a decent result. This is one instance being a short hitting high spin player may be to your advantage.

For those with limited ball flight length a camera unit is a much better solution.although probably more expensive.

Thank you. I bought it and tried it at 7 feet and 8 inches and it's working. Getting 90 percent accurate and measured spin readings with an RCT ball. All estimated and poor readings without the RCT ball. Problem is spin access and that has nothing to do with my ball so I guess I'll consider this working. Lol

scelebre - I'm at about 8'6" and with Titleist RCT ball. I found with the latest release my driver seems to be very accurate, but all the other clubs in the bag are short 10%-20%, did you see anything like that?

My R10 is 6 feet 6 inches from the ball, but I have 12 feet from the ball to the net. Using titleist prov1 and callaway chromesoft balls.
I think the Weather Conditions settings on the R10 have a significant impact on the distances.
I use Elevation 10000 feet, Relative Humidity 85% and temperature 95 degrees to get maximum distances.
The Elevation setting makes the most difference for me. Try playing Sanctuary Golf Course If you have E6 connect. It's in Denver so you really get the extra yards from the elevation.

MattyTempo - The weather conditions definitely have a huge effect... but they should effect every club in the bag - at the same amount, and that's not what I'm seeing. I set my Elevation = 5000 feet, and my Temps to 82F degrees with 65% humidity... Huge humidity numbers will inflate your numbers out of control - and that's not something I want.

Brettster I found my distances maybe a tad short but close to what I'd expect and I have spent lots of time on higher end monitors. But that's consistent through to driver. Ball speed and spin rates seem to be ok though so could just be gsrmins algorithms being a bit off or different. My biggest issue is sidespin being incorrect 40 percent of the time I'd say

It's taken me months, but I think I have it all finally worked out. First I had a huge radar interference issue caused by my projector. I showed my quick and dirty solution was to build a box using aluminum fly screen for my projector (cutouts for the lens and cords). So now I have an 8-9ft ball 2 screen and the launch unit is way back in the corner 7ft 5" from the ball. I also started using metal dots balls I use for all the woods and driver. I use normal balls for all irons and wedges. I placed the R10 unit on a piece of matting in the corner so it would be the same height as my hitting mat (which is one of those thick, "holds-a-tee' kind-of mats). I also use a laser alignment tool to get everything centered up. Then I take a lot of chip shots on the range to check the alignment is good and the ball flies straight when it should. Also to check that all of the apps are talking. It's kind of a pain-n-the-rear Once I have the green blinking light now, it just goes and goes. It actually does give a very realistic game and very trustworthy numbers. I really hope sometime in the future they can add putting as I miss that in the games.

Hey Chuck - I hear you, it can be a bit of a time-suck just getting setup.

This has been my biggest wish - I heard they might have some patents out for imaging/cameras to do putting, but I'm not sure. I wish they could do it with Radar, as it can easily handle short chips - but I guess the ball is up in the air at that point above the club... maybe if the R10 was raised up high enough it could do putting, I think others spoke of it 'accidentally' letting them putt.

You're right though - it's a big 'miss' to not have putting, it's at least 50% of the game in my mind.

Yeah, I'm with you on that Brettster I'm pretty impressed with the R10 now that it's all playing nicely. I mean, I was on it all day today and did not have a single miss. I had a couple of "Wake-up" messages I needed to deal with, but it wasn't bad. I hit well over 100 chip shots of all kinds of distances from 5ft to 60yrds because there is no putting. I'm actually getting good at chipping it into the hole. A few more sessions and I might get dangerous. I also feel that the numbers are near spot-on for distance, ball, and club soeeds. It plays a good simulation up to small chips that really should be 6ft putts (2 yrds). The sweet part is in my sim, where ever the ball strikes the screen, it's like that is the impact window and the ball will always cross into the sim with that as the entry point. It's very immersive.

Are you center aligned, or one side? Which software allows you to hit the screen at the exact spot the ball shows up? I'm asking because I've not seen a 'right alignment' option yet in Garmin Golf, but it is there in E6. So, wondering which you're playing with, or are you playing TGC with it and does it have an alignment option?

Centered Aligned Brettster. It just makes it easier with the placement of the R10 and my ES16 too. The E6 Connect software has a nice screen math adjustment that helps. During the initial setup, it's really worth looking into measuring out the projected screen size, and screen-to-ball distance to get the game geometry right. With the R10, its right down the center line of the screen. With the ES16, it's placed 10in right of the center-aligned tee with TGC2019. I will sometimes adjust the ball view because games typically show the ball at the tee instead of the projected view with the ball 8ft from the screen. But in the big picture, it's easy to tell where the ball is going by where it strikes the impact screen. Kind-of cool.
        Working...
