Rapsodo How does the R-motion register and calculate bad ballstrike, i.e if you hit down hard in the mat before you hit the ball?

  • #2
Just so I am clear, you are hitting the mat prior to striking the ball? This will absolutely reduce your distance as you are most likely reducing your club head speed. IRL, this would be a chunk shot. You want to definitely strike the ball first and then the mat.

R-motion looks at the club vibration at impact. If you hit ground first, even though we try to take this into account, some of the data such as face angle etc are impacted.

HeMan Yeah in real life thats whats happens, it was a poorly constructed question from my side. I'm having trouble with my ball distances for my 7-iron and only 7-iron.... the 5 and 6 shoots almost as good as in real life but my 7-iron fails miserably. I'm trying to dial in what could be the problem.
I mean if I hit the mat at the same speed as i would have struck the ball (in TGC with R-motion) then the distances wouldn't really be different would they?
Rapsodo I understand the angle issue but what about the lenght? Normally I hit my seven Iron about 145-155 meters but for some reason it only goes about 60-80 meters sometimes. Zeekio had the same problem

After further analysing i found that it was some problems with the I8.

Okey, so I did a quick shot analysis to se if I could se a pattern to why this happens. See the attached picture for the data:
My conclusion is that it reads way more backspin, lower ball speed and higher launch angle than normal on the bad shots.

          I7:
Shot 83: Launch angle much higher than normal, back spin way higher than normal, ball speed much lower than normal.
Shot 87: Launch angle a bit higher than normal, Back spin way higher than normal, ball speed much lower than normal.
Shot 142: Launch angle a bit higher than normal, Back spin way higher than normal, ball speed much lower than normal.

          I8:
Shot 160: Launch angle much higher than normal, Back spin way higher than normal, ball speed much lower than normal.
Shot 171: Launch angle much higher than normal, Back spin normal, ball speed a bit lower than normal.
Shot 307: bad lie compared to the others, not comparable

I also looked at my I5 and I6 shots as reference, normally more difficult clubs to strike the ball clean (I'm a high handicapper). And as you can se in that picture there's none of these bad shot readings.
Maybe just maybe it is due to bad ballstriking or hitting the ground first but I cant remember if it was the case. Normally IRL the I7 is my "go-to-club" which i use a lot!
Anyone els tried analyzing this stuff?

G4zzel I don't have anything to add to your issue but I am curious how you are getting all the data in a spreadsheet.

It's from the Online Tour shot recording. Golfsimulatortours.com. All Players Have all shots registerd in their profile. The data can be exported to excel.

So you are playing on the tours with an R-Motion? It's fairly unclear to me how the tours work. Clicking on any of the "join" links just sends me back here. And I guess it means shelling out $500 for the full license. That's something I'm pretty reluctant to do, since I already own the game via Steam, it's 3+ years old, and it wasn't that great to start with. IAC, I don't really see how I "join" the tour, even if I wanted to. Could somebody point out whatever obvious thing I'm missing?

Its $500 bucks your missing 😊

The large community and the fact that TGC Have a couple of years running is for me actually a good thing. TGC steam version is developed by HB-studios as a game, the simulator version is a stand-alone version by Protee. Probably we Will see a significant update now in 2018 due to the HB-studio release of TGC 2 in 2017. Protee has Said that more info on this in feb.

Its great fun playing against others. For me That was the push I needed to concentrate on shots it gives you the push to really focus, like in IRL

So just to be clear ... the tour has no issue playing with lower-end systems such as R-Motion? I did find and read the rules, and that does seem to be the case. The rules about mulligans are obvious, but with R-Motion it seems like you should take some mulligans for the freebies you get from the system, e.g. that topped drive that just went 240 yards!

R-motion gives suprisingly accurate ball flights. I've got GameGolf IRL so I Have good knowledge about My game.

The tour Players are great, never heard anyone dish out crap on R-motion Players.

It is still a simulation whatever hardware, Have fun with it 😊

Agree. For the most part, it's pretty amazing, considering the price. I do find short-game a bit frustrating/mystifying. I'm not really clear if setting it to chip, pitch, or flop actually does anything. I feel like my short game is quite a bit better IRL than with R-Motion/TGC, so I kinda figure that balances out the freebies I sometimes get on full shots. Now ... just to figure if I can really spend that kind of money.

Anyway, thanks all for the advice.

The shot type in TGC doesn't do anything. Only thing is to Have picked the correct club

I figured since its a lifetime license so it depends on how much you use it.
