  • The $500 full license upgrade

Has anyone here done it? Worth it? I have been using R Motion since launch day. While I mostly play local multiplayer rounds, I am getting the itch to start playing online and trying more courses. The $500 is a little steep, so I wanted some feedback from those that upgraded.

How is the multiplayer and the access to all the courses? Does anyone know what will happen when/if they move over to TGC2. Will TGC1 still work, will they upgrade everyone over?

Is there an advantage to getting the full mode now VS. waiting for TGC2?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

I got the upgrade right away. I would say it is a no brainer to get. I wanted access to all of the courses and have the ability to play online. The online play is a lot of fun; whether it be tourneys or just a group of guys playing.

Must say its worth it. My game is more focused playing online games, it feels more real, even playing against ghost Players. I hope the upgrades keep coming as they did with other versions.

Yes absolutely worth it. So many great courses and RCR's on TGC. I mainly upgraded for the ability to have the kids courses for my daughter. I'd query the status of TGC2 and what that upgrade cost might look like.

I had/have basically the same question, with some specific points. 1) Is the designer fully functional in the full version? 2) are some of the things that are not functional in the limited version (such as setting favorite courses) functional in the full version?

Thank you to everyone that replied.

Schmidt...1) As far as I know the designer is fully functional yes. I have used the designer on Xbox before and it is pretty awesome. 2) I believe all these type of functions become available but hopefully someone can confirm with us.

Any word on the TGC2? Is it not worth me even worrying about?

Full version is complete with all functions. If you hesitate you can buy the steam version on PC to try it out. Should be around $20 or something like that.

It’s my understanding that once the full license is acquired future updates are no cost. One thing to note....if you are thinking about upgrading to a Skytrak at some point the TGC license is not transferable to Skytrak so you’d have to fork out $800 for another full license. Don't like it but something to be aware of.

I have and have played the PC version. It's good to hear that it's fully functional, to a point. IMO, the designer sucks in a very big way for making real courses. When it first came out, I tried for weeks to make a replica of my home course, and I could never even get close. With the Unity plug-in for Perfect Golf, I got a very accurate rendition in about 3 weeks using LiDAR data and satellite imagery. I've now seen some tutorials about how to draw in holes in TGC's designer using satellite imagery, but I still don't get how to do accurate elevations. If anyone has any tips along those lines, I'd really appreciate it. If I could get a decent version of my home course, I'd probably forgo a SkyTrak purchase for some time since the real reason is less the improved accuracy than it is the ability to use JNPG (for a steep annual fee, I realize).
