  • Next Course Design Project Ideas?

Hello, my name is Trey many know me as Storm or StormGolf. I've been around for a while in TGC, help implement and design many of the new shirt designs in TGC as well as several real world recreation courses.

Looks like I'll be upgrading to the full version of TGC for the sim! I'm looking for something I can get excited about designing. I enjoy mostly RCR's If you have something you'd like considered post it here. Maybe a google map link too. I have a technique I use to make sure the course is accurate in yardage and position of things with google maps. I TRACE the course in a way. You can see it here if your interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8ofLKO4lxI&t=5s

I look forward to sinking my teeth into a fresh new design sometime soon. It may be yours it may not...no promises. But I like serving the community too!

I like this one...not sure I could do it justice...but love playing courses the pro's play!

I'm thinking courses I publish to the sim will have PGA, Members and Sim tee boxes.
That would be basically, Tips, Mens/Members and Seniors. It use to be sim requests would be in the 6400-6800 range...

I have to know the story behind these two. West Detroit and then Ashville North Carolina! I like the overhead look of Reems Creek!

Either of you get around in the designer at all? What I might could do is TRACE out the courses for you guys to do some elevation and planting. The tracing is the part many don't "get" But you know what the "look" is from the tee's etc...

Who knows...let me see what else comes in and how ambitious I get

I live in the Metro Detroit area, and this is really a hidden gem locally. It's not in a good area, but the course is great and it can be quite challenging with all the native areas and carries. We had grandparents who retired in Asheville and we would go about 2-3x per year and I played this course every time i went. The elevation and the scenery is very nice.

I have never tried to design one, so any thing that started me in the right direction would be appreciated as well. I only have TGC on computer. Not sure what you use to design.

I had a go at it about 2 years ago. I failed after what felt like 20 times trying to trace a course right. Tried it using transparent screen but got out of sync all the time getting lost in space lol. I got 2 courses I would love to do you if you can somehow assist. Tracing or even a video with some good pointers. The courses are nothing special: Golfclub Barbarossa, Mackenbach , Germany is the one I'm member at now and would love to play it in the winter on my sim with some other members. And Beaver Creek country club, Hagerstown, Maryland is the one I learned playing golf at. So I know the elevation changes, green slopes and so on. Just need to get started.

Found your Youtube-video a couple of months ago and it really helped me designing my first course. The peekthorugh software is key and i'll second that the "from tee" insight is really helpful. Thanks for contributing to the sim-golf community I will definately give your courses a try next time.

            Good Luck!

I would love to somehow have the course I played in college and where all my buddies still play and I get to play for 2-3 tournaments a year designed. I live in SD and the course is in ND so I don't get as many reps as my buddies so if I could have it on Sim that'd be awesome. It's the #1 course in ND and It's a beautiful course so even a "traced" version that I could finish would be awesome.

Looks interesting. Love finding courses I'd probably never play but are beautiful and well designed! This is an interesting par 3... Wish more architects used interesting shaped greens to give the super options for placing pins. Quite a few I could dream up here! lol. Also enjoy parking the cart and then walking another 30 yards back to the "tips" really makes you think...your someone...lol...until you drop it in that front bunker because you didn't use enough club!

Some great photos of the course here too: http://hawktree.com/tee-times/#iLightbox[gallery_image_1]/0

It's such a great par 3, because there is lots of undulation in the green. Everything slopes towards the bunker with a small rise between the left edge of the green and the middle. The staff can really make it a pain putting it right in the middle. You think you hit a great shot and it funnels back to the front left or all the way back to the sand. Can't tell you how many times I've been in that BLACK sand beach!

Yea in the pictures I saw the black sand, that's crazy cool looking. Is that native or just something they do unique at the club?

It's from all the coal that is mined locally. They use it since they don't have much fine white sand around and it doesn't blow around as much since it's a bit more dense. Still super fine and fun to play out of...

Really great method of recreating real life golf courses. How do you get the elevation changes?

                    Aldeen
                    Butler National

Most of it is from Google Earth Pro (free now) and then augmented with photos and "feel" of the course. All the RCR's I've made I've had extensive photo reference either by members or myself playing them.

Nothing quite like knowing the course yourself and being able to put it to paper so to speak. With the limitations of the designer I really feel Southern Hills is a great representation of the course. I've played it a handful of times. Even once during a US open local qualifier. I missed out by 2 shots! Bay Hill was one I was fortunate to play on a business trip a long time ago. I took pictures and even got Arnies signature, he was at the range every day back then....had a noon game anyone could get in! Such a great guy.

Alright so far this one has peaked my interest. LIke the mix of holes, risk reward, par 3's challenging green complexes. Not sure we can pull of the black sand! At min. probably going to TRACE it out anyway. Will see if I get to the elevations and such. Stay tuned....

PS: do I have the routing correct?
