I can't resist writing a review. I am a previous ProTee user. I had to give it up when we moved our house, so I was looking for a goof alternative that would allow me to use foam balls. I first purchased an Optishot to use with my old laptop. After considerable time spent calibrating the clubs, I feel it is a reasonable simulation of my real golf game. However, I missed TGC, so I bit the bullet and purchased a gaming laptop and R-Motion.

In short, I am very impressed with R-Motion. The shot results are quite realistic and match what I am used to from ProTee. Really, it is a technological marvel to think that such a tiny unit can track that much data so accurately. As for the comparison to Optishot, they both do a good job, but Optishot is prone to the occasional crazy shot result that I have never seen with R-Motion. The main advantage of R-Motion, though, is getting to play on those beautiful TGC courses (thank you to the ProTee folks for allowing me to transfer my TGC license). Also, R-Motion is not light-dependent, so I can open the garage door and get some sunlight.

I'm in Q-School now, so I look forward to seeing you all on the Tour!

Welcome back to TGC! I too love the game and have wanted to have a sim for some time, but never had or wanted to commit multi thousands of dollars towards it. Looked at optishot several times...but chose not to ever go down that road. I too started Q School last night and should be on tour soon.

Love how economical R Motion chose to make their product along with ProTee and the TGC License. I know there are some that think it's too expensive still...but you just wont find something similar for the price by far!

That heavy rough everywhere at Q School kicked my butt first round. Shot 82!

Question, I recently picked up the R-motion as well; read all the posts here and people have had varying success. I am running the R-motion on a pretty lightweight laptop; looking at PC options right now. I can play a round but I certainly have to mess around with it, i.e always have to wave the club over the dongle to get it to turn green, move out of range, restart from time to time etc. Is this strictly because I am running the software on a weak computer i..e once I buy a PC with the correct recommendations it will process faster or is it just the nature of the R-motion?

Still a pretty cool piece of tech and reasonably accurate. Just wondering if the connection issues will improve once I upgrade the PC?

I can speak for using on a lightweight laptop. I had an old Lennovo Yoga 13 it's specs were far outside the range of what min or recommended are. It was a Intel HD4000 chipset! It ran the golf club at min level quality at maybe 15 frames per second. It did run though.

I did not have any issues (other than the occasional one) with connection or shot pickup. Most of the time the shot pickup was from me not holding for a moment right before swinging. Something many are not aware of. It doesn't have to be long, but a nice still moment helps quite a bit.

I have to think the issues some are seeing are either quality assurance in production (prob not, but possible) or the ENVIRONMENT they are using it in. ie. lot's of other bluetooth or wireless devices.

I ended up going with the Acer Predetor Helios 300 for right around $1,000. It has 16GB ram 256SSD and a 1060 card. It runs TGC quite nicely. I have most everything cranked up and only get a stutter or two now and again on heavy scenes. I wanted a laptop so I could go in garage and on back patio and to range maybe!

You may consider what else is in the environment your in and see if there are things you could change. Maybe even use a different USB port for the dongle. I know I have some on my PC that don't recognize portable hd's anymore for some reason...but still power up phones etc. Something went wonky...could be similar, not enough power or who knows.

Good luck, let us know what you find out!
