  • Playing TGC with single club

Hi all, Does anyone please know whether you can play TGC using R:Motion dongle on just one club? For example, if I change the in-game club settings for length and loft to the actual loft and length of my wedges, 4-iron, 5-iron etc, and then select the appropriate club in-game for each shot...Would swinging my 7-iron produce different shot trajectories and distance that are closer to the club selected in the game? Cheers

    Short answer is: Yes

Cheers for the short answer! Do you have experience playing the game this way G4zzel? Any shot shape/distance peculiarities that you've experienced which you'd care to share by any chance?

When you switch the club in TGC it has a different algorithm so you will get a longer distance for a 5 iron than you would an 8 iron. That said, it would be much more enjoyable with more clips, i could see you hitting a 5 wood as a driver but not a 7 iron for everything. I understand the clips are a little more money but be much more beneficial to your game.

You do know that you get 4 clips with the sensor (did with mine anyway) so you could have 3 wood, long iron, short iron and putter with clips on and have more realistic yardages.

Cheers for all of the replies. I've recently bought the 14 clip package (before having bought a screen and projector)...I thought that the room I had planned to use for the sim would be big enough for all clubs, but alas, after making some proper swings I just feel too tight with anything longer than a 7 iron! It's made me wonder how the game would perform with Cobra single lengths. Your answers have been useful. Thanks again for taking the time.

You could use the 7 iron and continually adjust the setting for the other clubs until you get to realistic distances for each. It may took a bit of time and effort, but should be doable.

                Ok the long answer:
i’ve played the game like that yes (4clubs). This was When I had low cealings. The whole experience playing (four) one club was bad for my game-set-up. Its hard to explain But teeing up online against fellow sim-Players who’s using say Skytrak, GC2 or Protee made me wanna be on the same playing field. It is much more difficult to hit the longer clubs so it got me more satisfied using the more realistic approach playing online. Even If r-motion only measures the club it really gets the different swing-flaws as well. I’m sure you dont swing your driver on the same plane or same release pattern as your 7iron and that Will produce different shot-shapes in TGC as Well.

i hope you get the consensus of What i’m trying to say here. R-motion is a fantastic budget-alternative to get to play some great courses online and with friends. R-motion was the entry-level sim that got me building a new studio with high cealings and i’ve even upgraded to Skytrak now.

Good luck and welcome to the Sim world

That's great G4zzel. I really appreciate the long answer. I hear what you're saying and already know that one day I'll get setup properly...it's just that a dedicated golf studio is a little while off for me yet...Got a 16 week old boy to take care of and a wife to convince it's a good idea in the mean-time! All the best to you.

I'll chime in here, as I play with 4 clubs myself all the time. I use a 4 Iron for Driver, 3 Wood and 5 Wood. 7 Iron for most all other irons except the wedges. A 52 wedge for all the wedges and then the putter.

I found that when using only the 7 iron I was having difficulty getting on plane swings and the algorithms would throw off my traj quite a bit. So the longer 4 iron serves to flatten my swing so to speak on those longer clubs. I cannot swing a driver in my garage so....

                    Hope that helps some.

I'll note that inside RMotion I've adjusted the distances accordingly so that when I swing my 4 iron as a driver RMotion calculations are based on an adjusted distance for the sensor. I've made it so it is WHERE it would be on my driver.

In my garage I use a driver, 3 wood (for 3/5 wood), hybrid (for 3/4 iron), and a pitching wedge for all iron shots (5-LW) and chips. Typically I play just "on green" gimme unless a tournament, in which I add the putter. But I have the 14 extra clips, rarely will I use more than 4 and tournys 5 including the putter.

I find the pitching wedge for all irons works well, its as long as my other clubs anyways, and makes it so all chips seem realistic with how the actual ball comes off the club. I do really like putting in this game, but I also enjoy firing through 18 holes in under an hour with the on green gimme.

You can swing your 3 wood faster than you can swing your driver, so I like having the driver separate.

Wow, so you can play in the tournaments every week using only a 7 iron if you just change the club selection prior to hitting?

There is no way to know and a thin shot looks great in the game as well.
                      Working...
