  • Hybrid vs Wood

    Hi all,

I don"t have any woods in my bag. Does anyone use their hybrids as woods in the game or should I just play without two clubs? Is there any really big difference between the wood or hybrid?

    Thanks!

You have the option of changing the first two irons to Hybrids and then modifying the length and lofts to match what you are using. During game play if you select Driver and swing a Hybrid it will send the swing results to TGC and show the shot you hit. I have hit my 4 wood many times when I first started (while choosing Driver in game) and it will show the huge drop in distance, or at least it did in my situation. I have since got the Birtee tees and can now hit Driver which results in more accurate results.

I am planning on doing that. I think my bigger question is if I use the hybrids as woods in game or is there something way different with how their swings are coded.

Not sure about how they record any different than it would if you were swinging a driver or a hybrid. I dont think it is measuring your actual swing arc but more your club head speed, face angle and angle of attack. So seeing how you should have a descending blow to the ball with a hybrid it should show a negative angle of attack which should impart more backspin compared to a driver which should have an upward blow to the ball which would be a positive decent angle and produce less back spin (unless you already hit down with your driver too).

Easiest way to find out is select driver and use your hybrid and look at the data on the screen after your shot. I found for me my Driver produced much better results when hitting it from the tee than my 4 wood hitting from the mat as the 4 wood was still slightly negative angle of attack (0 to -1) where driver I am positive angle of attack (+2 to +3) and club head speed and predicted spin rates were more realistic to my driver when using the driver.
