I know it's a cheap simulator. I know the launch numbers are not collected from the ball using cameras or dopler and therefor not very reliable. And I'm aware this device may not last forever.
But d#@n!!! For $225 this R-Motion and TGC app are pretty cool.
I just finished my first full round and I have to say, the R-motion was as much fun as any simulator I've payed to use. I'll have to get used to the wedges and partial shots, but that was the case on the E6 Sims (I believe that's what they were). Of the 94 strokes (yes, I'm that bad of a golfer in real life), there was a single 9i shot that registered weird and a couple chips that didn't register.. that's it. Switching the sensor from club to club wasn't that big of a deal, and I quickly learned that I had to putt with a much softer stroke than normal. But shots that I hit fat didn't go as far, when I left the face open or closed, the reading reflected that, and the distances from decent swings were close to what I normally hit making club selection easy.
There are some things about TGC that I have to learn and I'm currently running the apps on a woefully underpowered computer. But those are things that can get better. My workshop has low ceilings so I used the 5w as my longest club. I experimented with selecting the driver on the game while swinging the 5w and it seemed to factor in the stronger loft and longer shaft to calculate a distance just a bit longer than I normally hit with the driver.
Even though I use the launch monitor feature with my phone just for grins, improving my swing was never the intention when I bought the R-Motion. Coming from someone who has blindly hit balls into a net and played the WGT online golf game every winter for the last several years, this is a step up.
