  • R-Motion Accuracy of club head speed, spin etc

Hi Ok newbie here... I recently got the R-Motion (Rapsodo) and it seems to work fine (It is interesting I have the Skypro which also attaches to the club and that is more what you do before you het the ball, I have compared speeds yet - and there are a few similar data sets but R motion is what you do to the ball - it seems) . When hitting a 6 iron it says I am carry 140m (154 y) or so I thought I was a bit longer but to be honest we probably dont carry as far as we think BUT I really struggling to hit a bad shot - tried to hit in thin, to top it, really tried to hit hook but is a big draw - it seems if there is contact on the head it seems to make a similation with not a lot of variance.(?? - Anyone else experienced this?) I did watch a video were someone was comparing GC2 and R motion and some stats were similar. How does it calcutate spin if it is not radar? I did play the ladder drill where I tried to hit 80m, then 100m, then 110m etc and that was pretty good...felt that was going the correct distance and if I hit a little harder it went a little further.

One thing I did read that you have to hit off a proper mat. At the moment I have a piece very strong carpet and its locked down, I dont see much difference between that and a mat. At the moment I would probably just use for indoor practice area when its raining. I know its not $2000.00 so I dont expect much, bit of fun. I have not got in driver yet to see that speed but I will maybe today - not a lot of room so I will have to go to the club's practice area.

Also one thing I have found and not sure how to play - with bunker shots and chipping or pitching - you might take it outside the line to or you open stance nand swing on the line which is taken the club outsside the line - do the simulators take this into account with THE GOLF GAME TGC or do you have to swing normally? Also found this an issue with simulators are the feel shots... I am not worried I wont practice with it but if play a game it can be frustrating.. I dont know if it the rmotion and TGC or in general.
    Thanks

Several things....The R-Motion is purely a "club tracking" sytem and knows nothing about the actual ball reaction. For the most part, it will "assume" a solid hit every time. There are instances where it will "pick up" a thin or fat shot. However, in general the "punishment" for these shots is not severe. The sensor measures "sensor speed" and "sensor path". Everything going on at the clubhead at to the ball is calculated based on sensor alignment, clubhead lofts you have entered and length from sole to sensor you have entered.

The clubhead speed, carry distances, total distances, backspin, side-spin, launch angles, etc. are all calculated based and "norms" associated with the numbers you have entered. In order to get "perfect" distances, you will need to "tweak" the lengths you enter for each club. In order to get "perfect" ball flights, you will need to make sure the sensor is aligned properly and you get a "clean" hit. I have spent quite a bit of time tweaking and the results I get pretty closesly match my actual on-course results.

While the mat used does have some effects, it is minimal with a club-tracking system like R-Motion since the the sensor uses "hit detection" to calculate the numbers. If you hit the mat first, the sensor may very well take that as the ball contact point.

For greenside bunker shots, I actually swing the same as I would in real play (open stance, aimed left). For me, that works pretyy well. For fairway bunkers, I swing normal and that works well.

For me if I hit a fat shot I lose distance obviously it loses club head speed at impact but it usually causes me to hook. My main problem is with spin. Example hit an 8 iron into the green and it hit short on the front of the green and runs all the way through the green out the back side. This isn’t my normal if I hit the green the ball will usually remain on the green. I find TGC greens to be extremely fast which isn’t typical of golf course amateurs’ play. I haven’t figured out how to make the ball spin more if that’s possible.

I went to a par 3 and hit auto replay and I did not hit the green every time and so was pretty realistic. I find it does not show really bad shots, like really big hooks or slices - TGC is pretty fast, I am on a 5 year laptop so is pretty good. I was running on battery and was ok.... I know there were a couple of thin right slices that would not get 10 ft in the air. TGC or Rmotion does not show those shots - it seems.... I do find if it is a 6 iron and say 155, I end up short. I have not adjusted length I hit yet...I need to work it out properly..

Also found big difference on ball speed / club head speed on app vs TGC. APP much much lower...33 mph v 75 mph

I've written a blurb about how I think the R-Motion sensor works in simple computer science language. It may help your understanding of what the game is looking for, and could help solve your specific problems you've mentioned in this post.

When it comes to the full version of TGC for RMotion... Is there a community at all since RMotion can only use the older version of TGC? I am contemplating buying the full version for the online play, tournaments, and full course list, but I do not want to buy it if there is no community left on the old version. Anyone with the full version have any suggestions?
