  • R-Motion: Chipping accuracy in TGC - a comparison

    I just did a little test yesterday in my garden trying to find out how accurate the carry distances are which are shown in TGC software.
    So what I did: I placed some sticks into the grass every 5 metres (maximum 15 metres carry distance) so I had the chance to see right away where the balls came up and could compare it to the distances in TGC.

    So here are the results.

    1st round, 23 chips with a 56° Sandwedge

    real carry distance / TGC carry distance:

    Overall I think the results are pretty okay for a system which doesn't read any ball flight but only swing data!?

      How was the ball flight accuracy? Distance accuracy is good. When I took to the range the ball flight matched real life if made good contact. Which I was impressed.

        What do you mean by saying "ball flight"? Trajectory or dispersion?
        As far as trajectory is concerned, TGC seems to have authentical ball flight, just what you would expect of a chip with a wedge.

        Dispersion of course is not a big factor with chipping :-)

        Next aim will be to take my notebook out to the range (as soon as this is possible) and see, if TGC recognizes the trajectory AND dispersion correctly with full swings.

        Let us know what your tests show. I had the opportunity to hit my driver with real balls and TGC showed results that were not close at all to the actual results. In many cases, I hit a draw or a pull but the simulator showed a push fade for every shot.

          Yeah of course I will. Unfortunately the golf clubs are still closed here in NRW (Germany).

          It doesn't really surprise me that you had different results with full Driver shots. R-Motion respectively TGC always presuppose that you hit the ball with the middle of the club face, never thin, somethimes fat. So there may be some suprising ball flight results which could also be reasoned by a combination of path and clubface...a friend of mine uses the GC 2 witch HMT and this is very accurate - but even with its' full data it is sometimes hardly to understand several ball flights
