  • Paying to unlock full version of TGC1

I am using the free trial version of TGC that came with R motion. Haven't paid to go full version as my plan is/was to get a Mevo+ or similar and move to TGC2019. I know if I buy the full version for R Motion today, it will not be upgradeable to 2019 if/when I switch launch monitor products. With that said, the significant backorder on Mevo and Skytrak are making me consider just paying the $500 so I can get online access, a handicap, stat tracking, etc.. My main concern comes down to how active the TGC online community is for R motion. Are online events cross platform and I can play against Skytrak and GC2 users or am I limited to just R motion users? And is the community large or are we talking about a handful at his point?

Thanks in advance! This quarantine had me rushing to build a home simulator so I can play golf as all courses are closed. R motion was only thing I could get and I got lucky getting it for $99 for the full sensor and 14 clip version on a major closeout from rock bottom golf. Distances have been challenging to dial in and mishits are not read properly (thin shots going full distance for example) but it is keeping me swinging and I am enjoying myself.

The TGC1 tournaments are cross platform. You will be playing against all TGC1 users regardless of system. The vast majority of user have moved to TGC 2019. However, there is still a decent showing for each tournament. This weeks tournament currently has ~20 players:

TOUR CHALLENGE 2 rounds at Firestone CC South (Protee Harvest) Zurich-Classic-Of-New-Orleans RULES Gimme : within 2 yards / 1.8 meters Handicap : Not required Wind: OFF Green Grid : ON Club Suggestion is ENABLED. Boost: OFF (+/-5% max on club settings) Zurich Classic of New Orleans runs from TODAY - April 26. Purse:

Like Braycobb said still a good turnout for the weekly comps, I was like you did not want to upgrade to the full version with R Motion but did a few Months back so glad I did.

There are so many great courses to choose from.

Perfect timing of this topic (at least for me).
You know the familiar story.... Lockdown, gnawing the shafts of my clubs etc.. Got my hands on a R Motion from the US and had it sent over to the UK where non golf loving house builders make sure nearly no ceiling is high enough so you have to play outside or answer some pointy questions as to what the actual f you are doing to the living room where there is enough height...

            Digress over...
initially I wasn't keen on it because of the weak pick up on the chipping, but I guess that part of your course management and starting to warm to the R Motion a lot (despite it being pretty clear that Rapsodo would be much happier if it just buggered off).

On the upgrade which I'm also thinking about throwing $500 for an unsupported product feels wrong but for the courses and the ability to design some holes it's almost too tempting to pass up and the online play might just clinch it.

In the TGC weekly comps what sort of day / time are they on?

For the online play, is it a case of inviting someone with an R Motion or TGC1 to a game. Or is it a case of seeing who's on and asking?

With the full version is it possible to play against the computer (based on handicap)?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on the above

I’ve played one official tournament so far. The one this forum sponsors. Looks like each tournament is a week long so plenty of time to log in and play your rounds. You play against ghost competitors or by yourself. Not sure if you can play with live people this way yet.

ive also played regular rounds by myself. Played Augusta and some top rated course I never heard of before like Black Mountain or something like that. I could play with ghost players or by myself that way as well.

there is a way to play online with friends. So if you know someone here playing tgc 1, you can setup a match to play live.

Shot stats are finally being tracked in the stat section for me and I turned on all shot recording so I can also see my stats here on the player profile page.

I am very happy I paid for full version. This will give me a lot more time to wait before upgrading to mevo or other. I even bought a second set of clips off eBay so my buddy can play when this quarantine is over.

                That's excellent, thanks.
i had wondered about the shot stats and if they were visible somewhere and good to hear on the competitions so you can fit the rounds in at times that work.

Also looks like the license upgrade came through pretty quickly too.

Nice! See you on tour! I played 54 holes today and unlocked my handicap. Pretty damn close to my real handicap. I have a few issues with the game like hitting your ball in water and it automatically takes you back to last hitting position rather than point of entry but it is what it is. Thoroughly enjoying myself.

There are definitely some it is what it is things with it but the trade offs are well worth it.

I meant your license came through quickly.

I clicked on the upgrade link and got part way through the process before noticing I could only select USA or Canada.

Putting a UK address and leaving it as the US didn't seem to bother it too much but then I noticed that the webpage was insecure and had reservations and throwing a credit card number in to it. So then I created a burn after using once virtual card in my banking app and then it started to piss down again.

What with having to use the garden for the height I thought I'd hold off and ask here if folks from countries outside of the US or Canada were able to upgrade successfully.

That said ceiling height in my home office is good for 7i maybe a 6i so I can see a way to using the upgrade in doors with some short hole recreations.

There are a number of R-Motion users from other countries. The winner (gross) of last week's tournament is from Germany.

Just to Verify, the cost for the upgrade is $500? And how do you tell what version of the free software you have?

Yes, the full version is $500. With the free version, you get 16 courses (15 + driving range) and you can only play offline.
